Mongoose's Strongholds and Dynasties

Does anyone have this? If so, can they give a general idea of how the stronghold and (especiall) kingdom-management mechanics?

Well, THIS is a sad and forlorn looking thread.

Since I have an interest in this rules area, I have the book on order. I will share my observations once it arrives, unless someone else posts a suitable commentary before then.

I asked a few weeks ago if anyone could compare it to Penumbra's Dynasties and Demogogues. I got a lot of 'buy both' rather than which handled what.

Well, just going by the description we have of S&D on Mongoose's website, an important difference is Atlas' Dynasties and Demagogue's doesn't have rules for stonghold building, dominion management, or mass combat rules, all of which appear to be in S&D. Dynasties and Demagogoes IMO is a player's guide to roleplaying in a political campaign. Has lots of prestige classes, feats, RPing tips, etc. Mongoose's book may cover some of this as well, we'll have to see.

Note, I can't find a page devoted to S&D at Mongoose's website...strange

I recall asking Mongoose about it a while back and apparently the shipment was held up by customs for a while...as for those who pre-ordered on Amazon.com, eh. I cancelled my order a while back, although I did go back and manage to snag a copy for $21.55 including S&H from an Amazon reseller. Originally I had it preordered for $18-something including S&H due to an amazon.com price glitch but the projection for its delivery ndidn't change ("1-2 months") until relatively recently.

I wish someone wrote a review of it prior to me plunking down my $$ again, but I guess I'll just have to take a chance this time. I hope it has better castle construction rules than the Stronghold Builder's Guide, other than a few sections it just didn't work for me.

Just picked it up today... I used to run Birthright and this looks right up my alley.

Good: They integrate economics, construction, taxation and warfare. If you are running a game with the players being the lords of a nation this is a very useful supplement indeed.

Bad: Some pretty much useless maps, lack of information on religion and magic in the running of a nation and the control of the populace, some spells specific to running a nation would be great.

Things I would have liked to See: I would have liked more information on trade, though the rules on resources was a good start.

All in all I feel that it was a worthwhile purchase. The updated Open Mass Combat System was nice. I will most likely keep my house rule of using a skill roll to operate the siege engines rather than an attack roll After all I have both a Knowledge (Siegecraft) and a Master Artillerist prestige class in my game.

I will need to read i more thoroughly tommorrow.
