How come sorcery generates heat so the sorcerors have to wear lose clothing to disrobe? How come all the sorcerors are strapping young men and pert young women?

Some how I figured this would come up. :p :)

It's only in Shelzar and Albadia. Otherwise you have lots of ugly people doing it. As for why, hey they are probably the best of the best! ;)

Two reasons:

1) The General Forum pushes a LOT of threads down.

2) I need an excuse for a "Ask Nightfall" thread in this forum. Why? Because I'm eccentric! ;)

Are you still reading any Scarred Lands story hours? *blink*

heh heh. I know I let 'the Scars Run Deep' die for a long time, but I'm back on the ball now. :D

On a serious note: what are the non-obvious implications of the "magic generates heat" thing, and what kind of interesting effects has it had on specific games?

At the moment only Lars' I would read more...but I've had my vacation time to spend Ruined. (I still have great fondness for yours Ruined)

Think of it a lot like acting like a minature microwave. You can't cook food with it however, but it will keep you from feeling a lot of the effects of cold weather.

As for specific games, while I've not run across them, I do know it can lead to interesting...results such as a one instance where I read about a female gamer who kept her character invisible just so she wouldn't have to show off that much. Course no one told her casting spells makes you visible when casting invisibility...but it was funny to see the look on one Hedradan guard's face when a topless Abalbian popped into view. ;)

For me, the magic-heat been mostly flavor. Recently, the PCs walked into a small inn room where an NPC had been Scrying for a lengthy bit of time. The room was sweltering.
