i got game!

First Post
so, the memphis gameday fell apart in every direction it could, lack of focus, lack of group, it just didn't work.

but- it did get me in contact with some memphis gamers who invited the wife unit and me to sit in on the first game of a new campaign.

a live game!

so, i go to game with complete strangers, with my wife- who has only gamed twice, and both times with all newbies.

we show up and to find 5 truly decent human beings. everyone is bathed, noone has a needle hanging from their arm, no vulcan ears. my hope soared.

they seem to play a pretty rules and movement light game, with few houserules. the have minis for us, someone else (will, brutorz bill on the boards) helps my wife make her character, and they all treated my newbie wife like a real person, not my wife. this was great. they were polite, and still behaved like people, not sparing her any room. i cannot tell you how much i appreciated this.

beala knight was there, and some other nice guys- i can rememebr their names, but not their screennames.

the game was a blast. as you can probably tell from above, my big worry was the wife. i didn't want her to be seen as a drag because she was new, or to be handled with kid gloves. brutorz bill dealt with the latter by killing her character, mine and another in the opening combat.

twice i looked up to see my wife tearing up, from extreme laughter.

good gaming, good cross-table talk wihtout so much it ruined the game. decent folks and good hosts.

i am so happy i do not even know how to deal with it.

my wife had a ball, and pointed out how much more fun the game was than me painfully dragging 4 newbies through a module. we rolled up new character to replace the old ones, and got back in the swing. agiant wasp and a baby owlbear later we are in a campaign!

best moment- we all have to roll spot checks, the dm goes around the table asking result and when he gets to ashley, our kind host, he is in character, looking at the ceiling and picking his note to simiulate his LOW role.

addendum: while i was typing this brutorz bill called ot see if we had fun and to make sure we were coming back. a follow-up call. man, is he gonna get lucky on the third date...

It's always great to read about great games!

Especially when it involves:
- nice people.
- people being introduced to the game.
- noobs dying in the first combat.

Game on, I say, game on.

sweet. :D

always good to hear about the success stories.

had read about so many miscues on my route around the message boards, i was beginning to wonder if anyone played for fun outside of my current group.

Ummm yeah...that was roleplaying...riiiigghhtt... :D

That kind of sounds like the KC Game Day. Well, maybe a little worse. We had about 13 people the first time (at an FLGS) and then maybe 22-25 at a second one (at a hotel, we got a great rate on a conference room). But, it's fizzled out after that, and our message board is a graveyard.

But, I did meet a lot of swell folks there. We'll do another one, I'm sure of it.

Great to hear that you got game, though.

I got game too!

Congrats!

I'm waiting impatiently for my first game with a new group this coming weekend. Hopefully it will go as well as yours.
