The Starship Troopers miniatures wargame will bring you face to face with the very worst the galaxy has to throw against Mankind. Supported by a complete range of plastic and metal miniatures, players will command entire armies of Mobile Infantry, Fleet Expeditionary Forces, Arachnids, Skinnies and many more. Released as a large box set in the first quarter of 2005, the Starship Troopers wargame will contain the main rulebook with enough Mobile Infantry and Arachnids to begin your fight for the galaxy. Further miniatures, vehicles and armies will be released throughout 2005 and beyond, all with their own specialist army books describing the structure of their forces, unique technologies, painting guides and, of course, their army lists.

Service guarantees citizenship!

The Starship Troopers graphic novels will be released at regular intervals throughout 2004 and beyond, each telling the story of the struggle throughout the galaxy and within Earth's own government. New aliens will arrive and old enemies stand ready to launch fresh offensives. Only the Mobile Infantry and Mighty Fleet can save Mankind from annihilation.

Remember your training and you will make it back alive!

The entire Starship Troopers product range will be fully supported in Mongoose Publishing’s own magazine, Signs & Portents, which will include new scenarios, optional rules and tie-ins to the Starship Troopers graphic novels and films. Massive multi-player campaigns stretching across the whole world will enable players to personally take part in the most crucial wars, from Klendathu to the Home Front itself.

The RPG (and the graphic novels and wargame, for that matter) will be based on a synergy of the novel, film and Roughnecks TV series, for a variety of reasons. We very much want to keep to the original spirit of the novel but at the same time, there are some seriously cool elements in the film and TV series that we do not want to miss out on - the powered suits of Roughnecks, for example, or the brain bugs and ships of the film.

I just asked this in the speculation thread in GD, but I'll ask it here too:

How is Starship Troopers bigger than Bond?!?

So many questions!

This clicked for me last night when I had time to sit down and actually THINK after the chat. For someone who's only ever seen the movie, this might not be a big deal, but DAMN! I guess my biggest question is:

How close are you planning on staying to the book, in terms of the culture, both on Earth and within the MI? I'm guessing certain things will be toned down a bit, but I'm still anxious to get my hands on this :D (Especially since I always pictured this as a DP9 game)

Slight correction, there was no power armor in the film... that was the book. Also, one of the points in the book was that the power armor was so powerful that a single MI trooper might wipe out thousands of bugs but considering that it took 18 years for a single human to mature and be trained to fight the bugs were hatched ready to fight it didn't matter. Even a 1000/1 kill ratio still meant that the bugs were going to win. Dropships weren't even used in the book, each trooper was shot out of the ship like a bullet from a gun and one trooper might be assigned to patrol a 10 square mile area all by himself. To make a good RPG it seems like it is going to be more heavily based on the TV series rather than the book.

Slight correction? Umm, we know that :)

The Roughnecks provides the best balance for power armour, in terms of capability and modern expectations. MI armies in the wargame, for example, are relatively small but even the basic trooper is _very_ well equipped and can handle practically anything. The trick is deciding what to do against any given threat :)

Overall, while we are looking to the TV series and the film for various 'cool' items, those expecting us to completely ignore the novel and its original vision will be disappointed. It may not appear on any charts, but the novel is one of the best ever written and we ain't going to muck it up!

What OG system? Basic rules for fantasy d20 srd? d20 modern? Your cyberpunk OGS? Something different?

If you have an aliens (bugs) book will it be suitable as a monster book for D&D games? how much rules difference will there be?
