DESPERATELY need a Business Manager!!!

Michael Morris

First Post
Folks, we still need to at least fill the business manager position!! I can do the flash myself if need be but the business mng position is needed NOW to help get the word out to the publishers (so far Crothian has been doing this role, but it isn't fair to him to double this up on the judging work).

PLEASE!! I'M CLOSE TO BEGGING HERE!!! :heh:

Hello everyone. As Russ is working with the judges, I shall begin on staffing this year's show. Last year we had 4 individuals helping with the ENnies, and I'd like to expand this staff to reduce the workload on me and to make the ceremony that much cooler for all present.

If you are interested in any of the following positions, please post which one(s) and what your qualifications are. Advertise yourself and your qualifications.

Note: these are volunteer positions. There's no pay involved!

None of these gigs are easy. Indeed some of them involve manual construction, drawing, all sorts of talents. Many involve work which needs to be started as early as possible and will carry through to the show and even go afterward, so be prepared for this. Some positions require your attendance at Gencon, while others this will be optional. The more labor intensive positions will, like judges, be rewarded with a free trip to GC and Hotel room (Exactly which ones are up to Peter Adkison to decide).

Here are the rules for staff:
 1. As with judges, these positions are closed to publishers and would-be nominees as the staff are privy to private information (as in, having advance knowledge of who won what award in many cases).
 2. Most staff report to me (Michael Morris) and then to Russ. I'm not a dictator or anything, but Russ will be busy with the voting side. If you're unsure of who you report to keep this rule of thumb in mind - if it has anything to do with the ceremony itself it's in my purview, and if it's a voting, judging issue, it's in Russ' If in doubt ask me and I'll confer with Russ. Part of my role is to keep the ENnies workload from overwhelming Russ, and I'm looking for folks who will in turn keep me from being overwhelmed :D
 3. Again, some positions require attendance at Gencon, and for others it's optional. If you can't make it to Gen Con make sure you apply for a position where your attendance isn't required.
All questions and commentary are welcome

And the open positions are as follows...
Flash Programming Lead
Gencon Attendance Required? No.

Duties:This person will lead the development of the flash animation that is used in the preshow and during the ceremony. They will be free to pick as many (or as few) assistants as they require to get this job done.

Qualifications: To apply for this position post a link to one to three flash animations you have done in the past 12 months of at least 1 minute's duration which employ sound and animation.

Deadlines: The main control program must be finished June 30th. Nominee slides must be ready July 30th.
Biz Manager
Gencon Attendance Required? Yes

Duties: This person handles the promotion and advertisement of the ENnies event, particularly outside the show. This includes working with catalogue publishers. At the very least this person will present award stickers to publishers after the show for use on the products.

Qualifications: A background in marketing and advertising is needed to do this job well. We're looking for someone willing to work to expand the influence of the ENnies by getting the word out about them. This also involves contacting publishers and making sure that they are aware of deadlines and what they need to do to enter.

Deadlines: None as yet. Of the positions be warned that this one is a continuing year-round one.
House & Reception Manager
Gencon Attendance? Yes, or else.

Duties: The after ENnies reception and cooridinating seating arrangements with participants. This individual will choose ushers as necessary.

Qualifications: Know how to organize a damn good party.

Might want to rephrase that Micheal: I think it's free admission to GC, not a free trip.
Properties Manager
Gencon Attendance Required? Yes.

Duties: This person designs and if necessary builds all properties (props) used in the show or delegates persons to do so. They will be free to pick as many or as few assistants as is required for the job and may, with Russ' approval, outsource certain work such as statuettes. This person will refer to Russ instead of me on budget concerns. At the very least you need to be prepared to produce approxiamately 50 trophies (The exact number will fluctuate with categories) and around 75 to 100 wall certificates (One for each artist/writer of an award. Some winning products have multiple persons behind them, and the certificates, unlike the trophies, will be awarded to individuals. Hence if a product with 12 interior artists wins the Interior Art Gold award, there will be 12 certificates for that award). Other set pieces will be optional but encouraged within the budget allocated for this year's ceremony.

Qualifications: A strong theatre background is encouraged but not required. Carpentry/pottery/sculpting skills also a plus. Ability to organize and motivate others a must.

Deadlines: Once categories are decided upon the statuettes should be done, ideally, by July 30th.

whoever gets stuck with this is free to give me a holler. i am the tech director of a theater, have the required skills for award construction, set construction, and certificate production. :)

Watching the Oscars, I wonder, could we have Russ sing for the opening of the ENnies this year? Or perhaps, to be more in flavor for the type of awards, he could make a Perform check.

As a theatre professional for almost 20 years and a freelance lighting designer and stage manager for 15, I object to the personification of the stage manager as anyone's lackey. However, they are there to make sure everything gets done, right and on time. And the communication hub they must become must be experienced to be believed.

Having said all of that, I would like to discuss that position. I have a degree in Stg Mgt as well as my experience in the field.

If you have any questions/comments, please feel free to email me.

I was going to wait to see if applicants with professional party planning experience would apply, but I might as well throw my hat in anyway. As a former theater technical staff member I've had a hand at seating arrangements before. In extension to my theater experience as a former bouncer I've learned how to be diplomatic in the face of strong opinions. As far as my actual party planning experience goes that depends heavily on the type of reception you want, but as a college student I have good idea of how to develope a social flow that works. In short, I may not be professionally qualified for the position, but I believe that my practical experience more than makes up for that lack.
