I'm watching Ju On 3 - The Grudge, and I find it fascinating. Since their undead I can't help (forgive me) but to compare them to D&D sometimes, and how often I can forget how they should be - totally terrifying through small actions. Like leaving hints of their presence.

Only problem is their partial omnipotence (so far, the best idea is to just run away) and that the viewer of a movie see's more then the poor protagonist, with the eery [sic] feeling of dread that they will soon be surprised in a bad way (like sex). In that vein, what are good ways to foreshadow for the PCs in a stunning movie like way what to expect without being ham-handed?

For example: In a Super Mario Brothers game way (remember that level?), whenever your back is turned your hear a slight sound behind / around you. Following you. Or
going up an elevator, not looking out the window, but unbeknownst to you there is something looking at you at each and every floor, sans your last floor
One forum mentioned to focus on misdirection, to keep them offbalance and to have them imagine things that aren't there (failed spot role means you think you saw something out of the window, but twas just the curtains). I wonder if Ravenloft has a chapter on how to run scenes like this in an as effective manner as possible. Methods and tactics to totally creep your players.
