I'm getting better and better with it. I've only started using it a few months back.
To get good at it, I went to participate in Fark's Photoshop contests. By doing these, every contest brings new challenges that I have to discover a little more about PS to achieve the pic, and thus I improve.

No. I created the houses, pasted them on a transparent background pic, then pasted them individually on the map, rotating them to follow the direction of the street.
One by one.
It took a while, but not that long. This is a small town. If I ever make a city, it's going to take at least 5 times the time...

Also, if I were a nitpicky bastard I might complain that the roof shadows should all be pointing in the same direction. But I'm not, so I won't...
The fact is, I did took notice of that WHILE making the map, and I have an easy solution for this in future maps (don't fill the roof sections until all buildings are on the map, which won't take long). But I took notice of it only when I was halfway in the process, and at that point, i would have had to start almost from the beginning.
So yeah.
