Custserv response on errata'd polymorph

I sent an email to custserv@wizards.com requesting a clarification on how the errata for polymorph works. I asked what would happen if a 10 Con 8th level druid wildshapes into a 19 con bear. Here is their response:

The errata states that your hit points remain the same, but it does not say that your bonus hit points, which are based on your Con score stay the same. In fact, if your Con score changes, so do your bonus hit points. In your example, upon polymorphing, your character would gain 32 hit points because of the 19 Con.

Thanks!

Incredible. What the errata clarifies, custserv muddies... It's like the left hand and right hand aren't even on the same plane, much less able to talk to each other.

The only problem is that in the SRD they arent called bonus hit points. I dont know if this is the same for the published 3.5 books.
Maybe if they were called bonus hit points in the literature, this would have solved the whole problem before all the posts.

From the SRD
"CONSTITUTION (CON)
Constitution represents your character’s health and stamina. A Constitution bonus increases a character’s hit points, so the ability is important for all classes.
You apply your character’s Constitution modifier to:
• Each roll of a Hit Die (though a penalty can never drop a result below 1—that is, a character always gains at least 1 hit point each time he or she advances in level)."

IMHO this confirms that polymorph does not ever change your hit points in any way, full stop. Custserv said one thing, therefore the opposite must be correct.

I'm not saying they're dumb, but they know the D&D rules about as well as my cat does.

...and I don't even have a cat.

Hmm. Just looked outside and it does not look like Doomsday yet... so Custserv must be wrong ;)

Even though they said it works how I play it.

What Auraseer and Darklone said. I always figured hit points should not change. Now with Custserv having said they do, it is confirmed that they do not.

Oops, did I say it wrong? I play with changing hitpoints. ;)

Nah, you said they're wrong, but also said, that you house ruled it to work that way (opposite of what you think it is officially (whatever that means)).

So, everything is alright! ;)

It would be cool, if they would someday write a rulebook that actually contains the information they base their rulings on. ;)

:D

Yeah- what Shilsen said. Pretty safe in MOST cases that when Custserv gives a ruling the opposite is true.
