Dragon/WotC conspiracy article

This article basically is the author's conspiracy theory that Paizo and Dragon are really just WotC's publishing arm; that somehow they aren't a "magazine" because they don't actually engage in journalism for either the RPG field as a whole, or even the d20 RPG field. What's more, he wishes that Dragon would just admit what it is (a magazine for just D&D) instead of trying to hide it in the fine print (apparently he missed the "100% Official Dungeons & Dragons content" section on the cover).

Honestly, why write an article saying that something so blatantly obvious is some sort of shady deal?

A magazine put out by and for one company is popularly called a "house organ". This is a well known concept in media circles.

It is still a 'real' magazine. They still do reporting/research/creative work, it's just that you have to consider the source on certain topics. (IE there will never be a "Why Palladium Fantasy is better than DnD" article...)

Just my 2 coppers...

P.S. I actually dislike Palladium Fantasy but I needed an example.. ;)

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...um, does this guy know about White Dwarf? Wizards are just catching up with what GW have done for years...of course Dungeon and Dragon (and Paizo) exist primarily to market and promote WoTC product.

The thing that seemed oddest to me was that he kept going on as though "house organs" were some sort of under-the-table new thing. His example for PC gaming seems off too. I've been reading Nintendo Power for years, and it's the exact same thing (in this regard) as Dragon.

Scuttlebutt like this has been around ever since Dragon has been in print. This won't be the last case, either.

Uhm, I may be wrong but I am sure that Dragon has been around longer then White Dwarf, hasn't it?
yes. but IIRC, White Dwarf has been a "house organ" for GW longer than Dragon has for D&D.

I genuinely don't know much of anything about White Dwarf, so I can't say how long it's been around.

However, Dragon Magazine #1 is dated June 1976, before it was The Strategic Review as a house organ of TSR, which began with a Spring 1975 issue and went 7 issues before expanding to become The Dragon.

Dragon Magazine is up to #319, from what I can gather online White Dwarf is up to #293. However, if there were any gaps in production, or if it was something other than publishing every month then this isn't very valid for showing how old they are (although they do look to have begun at roughly the same time).
