Paladin Tweak - fair trade for Special Mount?

Like the title says.

What, in your esteemed opinion, is a reasonable replacement for the Paladin's special mount ability?

I ask because I dig Paladins and they have a special place IMC and in my heart ( :heh: ) but I don't like the noble warrior archetype, and my entire homebrew is set on an archipelago (and fairly nautical) so horsey-riding warrior-types don't feature too prominently.

Thanks.

Since the mount is actually pretty good, I'd go with one of the following:

1) two feats

2) good will saves

3) favored enemy (evil outsiders)

4) 2 more skill points

5) one extra spell per level (or a cleric domain)

Why don't you get a dolphin mount?

I agree with this... You could just pick an alternate mount that fits well with the campaign setting. A mount doesn't have to be a horse, and you don't even have to ride it... although the Paladin should be capable of riding it.

If you are always going to be in water, pick an aquatic mount. If you are going to be in the water and on land, choose an amphibious mount.

How about this as a replacement for the special mount ability:

+2 Charisma bonus.

It's simple, elegant and it scales with level.

Do you guys think it's too powerful?
