For warlords, it is common to see death and destruction at their command, and many come to revel in their power. It is from these evil individuals that the slaughterwar masters are born. When such an evil warlord or other great champion of evil dies on his day of triumph over good, along with several armies, all these souls are combined into the corpse of the warlord, which swells with the newly gained power and raises as a slaughterwar master. The same powers assemble the powerful weapon and armor of the creature, making the creature a veritable war machine.
Combat
Slaughterwar masters attempt to read the tactics and capabilities of their opponents for one or two rounds, to decide which of their abilities they should channel into their slaughterblade, beginning with the ability that seems most worthless at the time.
A slaughterwar master’s natural weapons, and any weapon it wields, are treated as evil-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. It’s natural weapons are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
Call of War (Sp): Once per round, as a free action, a slaughterwar master can call out two words of command, acting as greater commands, except that language is not a factor, and it affects all creatures in the area. A successful Will save (DC 22) negates each command, and a creature that resists both commands is immune to that slaughterwar masters call of war for 24 hours. This is a mind-affecting, sonic ability. The save DC is Charisma-based and includes the slaughterwar masters’ Ability Focus feat.
Slaughterblade (Su): A slaughterblade is a +3 keen speed greatsword sized for large creatures (some slaughterwar masters use other martial two-handed meelee weapons as their slaughterblade, but greatswords are the most common). In the hands of a slaughterwar master, it can obtain additional powers if the slaughterwar master channels its other powers through the blade. When channeling an ability, the slaughterwar master cannot use it for 24 hours. Each of these effects lasts for 24 hours.
If the slaughterwar master channels its call of war ability, the slaughterblade becomes a vicious weapon.
If the slaughterwar master channels its summon undead ability for the day, the slaughterblade deals 1d2 points of temporary Strength damage on a successful hit.
If the slaughterwar master channels its damage reduction, the slaughterblade becomes a defending weapon.
If the slaughterwar master channels its spell resistance, the slaughterblade becomes an mighty cleaving weapon.
If the slaughterwar master channels its warlord aura, the slaughterblade becomes a bane weapon of a type chosen by the slaughterwar master.
If the slaughterwar master channels four of its feats, the enhancement bonus of the slaughterblade increases by 1. The slaughterwar master can channel any number of feats this way, gaining a greater enhancement bonus for its slaughterblade. Remember that a slaughterwar master cannot use feats or abilities from prestige classes if it loses a prerequisite feat this way.
Summon Undead (Sp): Once per day a slaughterwar master can automatically summon 5 vampire spawns. This ability is the equivalent of a 6th-level spell.
Warlord Aura (Su): Evil creatures and undead within 60 feet of the slaughterwar master, including itself, receive a +4 bonus to all saving throws. This bonus is already reflected in the above statistics. If a creature gets a bonus to all saves from its Charisma score, such as a blackguard’s Dark Blessing, the bonus is +2 instead.
Warrior’s Soul (Ex): A slaughterwar master receives 8 bonus feats, which it can choose from the fighter bonus feat list. It can choose feats normally exclusive to fighters, using its base attack bonus as its fighter levels for the purpose of prerequisites. It must meet all prerequisites for those feats as normal. Slaughterwar masters are proficient in all simple and martial weapons.
Slaughterwar Master Characters
Powerful entities of evil, slaughterwar masters often take class levels to further improve their combat prowess, and a few powerful warlords even rise as slaughterwar masters with class levels. Their favored class is fighter, but almost all slaughterwar masters can enter the blackguard prestige class right away. A few might rise with a slightly different set of skills, which allows them to enter the assassin prestige class instead.
