Bucket o' Snails lives!

Though it requires an Epic feat to pull it off.

There's the Improved Combat Reflexes version, with the sack of puppies - the puppies all provoke AoOs as they try to run away, and you Great Cleave into the BBEG after each puppy.

But snails don't tend to do much running away, so it seemed that the traditional Bucket would be retired in 3.5, with the demise of the WWA/GC combo.

However...

... the Perfect Two-Weapon Fighting feat states that you may make as many attacks with your off-hand weapon as you do with your primary weapon.

So the Bucket is dumped, and some dozens of snails are killed with Great Cleave. The BBEG is ignored for the moment, as we Cleave from one snail to the next with our primary weapon. Once all the snails are gone (or we've missed a few times), we've made some dozens of attacks with our primary weapon.

And with PTWF, we can make as many attacks with the off-hand weapon as with the primary... and there's still a BBEG there.

Ah... but then, answer this!

If a PC does this to a BBEG, and the BBEG has the same combo, who gets the AoOs first?

I can see two lifetime rivals dueling it out, trying to slay as many snails as possible with their longswords while stabbing at each other with shortswords.

Well, firstly the PTWF version doesn't rely on AoOs. That's one of the weaknesses of the ICR version.

Secondly, if you're worried about the BBEG killing your snails, you dump the bucket in the square behind you, so he can't reach them :)

most BEGs have Reach though......

No they don't - in a lot of campaigns, BBEG are often classed humanoids who don't rely on spiked chains. (One of the reasons I think D20 Modern is so cool is that an NPC isn't so much weaker than an equal-level PC, making for more balanced encounters.)

No problem. You're in between him and the snails; they've got soft cover against non-adjacent attacks, so no AoOs.

Do you still strike cover if you miss by the appropriate amount? If so it would be even better to somehow dump whatever behind the bbeg, and then when you get the dozens of aoo's you'll miss a few times here and there hitting the cover.. with enough you need hardly any feats at all ;)
