A poll - am I an ass?

Well - I'm afraid to see the results, I've gotten to a point I can live with the truth that I'm a real bastard (my players assure me of this) - but, am I an ass?

I'm debating with a fellow on this topic (stripped of other facts):

Is an alchemical product equal to a 2nd level spell and costs 50 GP balanced? This fellows argument is yes. His view seems focused on the flexibility of a spell and its use in items. I'd read his description for more accuracy, but this seems to be the gist.

I've argued with this fellow before and find his 'written voice' insulting, and in all likelyhood I'm probably more insulting then he is due to my earlier encounters. Given that:
