"Oh, that's going to leave a mark. Thank you, Father," Octavio comments to Phalen as he gets up. "I wonder what these vermin were up to," he muses as he checks the bodies for clues (and loot).

Tank hacks away furiously, hacking off a hand and opening several large wounds before finally severing the creature's head. When it dies, the head and what remains of the body begin to change, bones shifting, features melting and stretching with disturbing rapidity, until after only a few seconds, it looks like a perfectly normal dismembered human corpse. Except for the severed hand, which remains a bestial claw. A quick check of the other creature reveals that it, too, has expired and shifted into fully human form.

Searching the bodies reveals that each creature has a blue discoloration, either a tattoo or some kind of birthmark, on their right hip. If you squint at it just right, it looks like it might be intended to represent a rat. Or possibly a pear. Their clothing is worn and dirty but otherwise unremarkable.

Both bandits carried a serviceable rapier, and on one you find a coin pouch containing 50g. A short ways into the trees near where the first foe fell, Octavio spots a narrow trail with a fresh half-bootprint.

Jinx' face reads as a complex mix of disgust and fascination, and a light touch of detachedness - part of his mind is still working on maintaining that focus. "That's.. somethin', alright. I heard about this sort'a thing before, but it was always about men turnin' into wolves, not rats. Learn somethin' every day.."

If someone makes him aware of the trail: "Eh, a trail..? Might lead to their camp. Some'a us are roughed up good, though, and if it's more than a little ways off, we'd lose time as well. My vote is we let it be."

Tank, Orc Barbarian 1 (3/13hp)

Seeing what happened to his most recent kill, Tank turns and rushes back towards the first creature to see if it is still bestial or if it has also changed.

As he runs, Tank whispers to himself, "A trophy, all I want is a trophy . . . " Tank tries to hurdle the tree and see his first opponent.

"Here's a path, lads. I bet their camp's not far from here. Should we check it out?"

"I think we shouldn't. After all, we are not out to fight bandits. If we were rooting them, or whatever else was attacking the road, I would but, we must not doddle and end up missing the auction" William says in a firm voice.

Tank goes across the tree again and confirms it with his own eyes: the other foe has turned human as well. All that remains of the terrible beast-men is the severed hand, which still looks like an inhuman claw.

Tank returns to the group and starts looking through the body there. Tank fashions a crude necklace from scraps of cloth and adorns it with two claws from the bestial hand.

While he works, he tries to participate in the conversation. "If we get another fight, I'll gladly follow the trail. Trails can be tricky, though. Do any of us have experience tracking?"

William looks at Tank before firmly saying "Agian, now is not the time or place to be chasing vandals into the wilderness...especially with our current load...Lets just get this tree out of the way, and get to our destination."
