I just wanted to say that yes, this is an April Fool's joke, but I would buy this in a heartbeat, even if it was significantly less than 1000 pages.

A lot of interesting ideas. So it's kind of a fail as a hoax, since I wouldn't mind seeing it at all.

Then you must be missing out, because you obviously don't own The Dresden Files RPG--and it is awesome!*

*And big and heavy. :D

You are correct; I don't. I've thought about it, but one of my friends owns the book and plays weekly and it seems like he never has anything good to say about it.

Fake or not, the "sad" part is that it sounds better than 4e.
Where can I reserve a copy? lol

Of course it sounds better than 4e. It's pure marketing spiel, for a product that doesn't actually exist and can therefore have features that are very difficult to implement in reality, and which you can't look at to see the flaws.

4e actually exists, so you can see the flaws of implementation.

As many of you seem to think this is a joke i thought i'd give some more info.
Primarily i wanted to share my thoughts about the upcoming edition.
Really i'm not attempting to troll, if i was i'd just say bad things about pathfinder.
I wanted to give a sneak peak, and i'm glad everyone else is excited too.
Lets move on with the clarifications.
*Firstly when i said 'bound' i meant 'in a binder', and yes that is about 1000 pages single-sided (very heavy to put in a backpack).
*On the subject of artwork it is all awesome, but a lot of it was fourth ed or placeholder artwork.
*On the subject of release dates i don't think this is coming out today, but it seemed to be a work in progress.
*Lastly i didn't get a great deal of time with 5e, just long enough to skim-read it - it may even be backwards compatible with fourth ed from what i saw.
5efan.

This. It's easy to come up with hundreds of ideas that would improve 4e. It's having the dedication to do the work of typing hundreds of thousands of words and designing hundreds of powers to make it workable that is hard to come by.

Hey, I was actually at one of the groups 5EFan was attending. There were a series of Encounters events around Washington that they apparently were sending these 5th Edition carrying agents to. I saw the same huge binder. For the most part, he just sat around and watched the Encounters group play, and occasionally, when someone's turn wasn't up (we have a big group, and it can take twenty minutes to a half hour to go around) he would take them aside interview style and ask them a few questions about what they liked, and then they'd come back to the table. I was one of the first, and the opening questions were all aimed at what we did, and didn't like about 4.0. Pretty standard at first, I thought it was just a typical survey about how things were going. THen it veered towards the upcoming 5.0, and he asked how I would like this new mechanic over that old mechanic, and whether I prefered something like Pathfinders or such. I caught a few glimpses as the binder he was holding, and as was previously mentioned, it was placeholder pictures for the most part, and a whole lot of facts and figures. When my turn was up, I asked when we can be getting some concrete information on it, and he said it would be a few weeks at least, as they tabulated all their information.

Colour me skeptical. While I can believe WotC doing in-person market surveys at Encounters, doing so while showing your prospective customers works-in-progress of the upcoming "edition", NO.

While the direction the OP is describing would be a lot easier to write for and balance classes, I seriously doubt if WotC would abandon the format of race-class sacred-cows that have been in most editions of D&D. If anything, I think the inclusion of simpler to play martial classes in the Essentials books show that WotC is LESS likely to abandon concepts central to D&D's identity.

Could you pull the other leg? Even them up a bit?
