Ridiculously powerful comic characters

I've always thought Superman has a ridiculous power suite -- essentially he could do anything the writers need him to do. He's the strongest, the fastest, invulnerable, laser eyes, cold breath, telescopic vision, microscopic vision, super hearing, etc., etc., etc. Just stunningly ridiculous.

The Martian Manhunter also has a long hodge-podge list of powers, but with a vulnerability to fire -- relatively common compared to kryptonite. But really, isn't everyone vulnerable to fire? Normal human firefighters are vulnerable to fire.

Just a minute ago I was reading the Wikipedia article on Thor of Marvel comics, and I find he has all sorts of ridiculous powers that I didn't know about. (I was a Thor fan of the 80s-90s.) If I had seen him use all those crazy abilities, I would have lost interest in him.

What comic book character has the most ridiculous collection of super powers?

For me it's Supes. It's one of the reasons I can't stand him. And then they have to go and make up crap that strips him of his way over the top awesome to try and make him interesting. He's just a terrible character.

Yep, Supes is the #1 overpowered character ever. Especially the 50s comics version. The one who once chained all the planets of the solar system together and hauled them through intergalactic space... Others are anyone who has to fight him (one-on-one without needing Kryptonite as an equalizer). The Big Red Cheese (original Captain Marvel, now called Shazam for stupid legal reasons) too, although he has an interesting vulnerability. Oh, and Rogue, as she can take on any power (and there are a few villians who can do the same, of course).

Well, Superman and the legion of characters popped out of the same mold- Titan, Thor, Ultraa, Mon-El, Captain Marvel, Supreme, Ultra Boy, Hyperion, Gladiator, etc.- and all those of similar power (like Wonder Woman, the Green Lanterns, Proteus, and arch-arcanists) are all "gods who walk among us", but the "Dial H for Hero" kids take the cake for most ridiculous.

If they didn't have the right powers on initial contact, redial and try again...

The collection of powers doesn't matter to me and doesn't dim my interest in a well-written character. I don't find it ridiculous at all. Some writers can handle Superman well, and some cannot. Same thing with many of the more powerful heroes out there.

Yeah, the powers don't prohibit good storytelling. They just mean your stories aren't just about physical challenges.

Sometimes when they make that stuff up, it just makes a bad story. Lucky that doesn't mean that all stories with that character will be bad.
