This is the kind of racist BS nonsense that people have been using to argue against affirmative action policies for decades now.

This is not to say that it doesn't happen, but it has much more to do with PR than actual qualifications. Typically, it's far, far, more likely for a less-qualified white man to be hired over a more qualified POC than the other way around. We just tend not to notice it because it's been the status quo for decades. See also: NFL head coaching vacancies, for a start.

I don’t think these topics are something we can discuss here.

But I can leave it at, I disagree with everything you just wrote.

Frankly as someone who IS the gaijin in Japan, I can say I’ve got a pretty good feel for othering, but outright racism has fortunately been fairly rare. Not absent mind you. But relatively rare.

As in no one calls the police when I’m bird watching.
I'll freely admit that some of the personal experiences you talked about on these boards in the past might have been part of the reason why I used a white gaijin as an illustrative example.
I hope you didn't find that annoying.

Naw. Fair enough. My ears were just burning a bit. :D

But, yeah, as an example, it's probably not the best. A white gaijin in Japan probably has faced othering on a pretty regular basis, probably for the first time in their life, simply because they've gone from belonging to the majority culture to being a minority. But, outright racism? Probably not a huge amount. It happens, sure, and I have stories, but not to the extent that you see in the news in the States.

Heck, I had more problems in Canada (a pair of Karen's berating my wife for using a public washroom they figured was "white only", for example) than I've really faced in Japan.

In other words, I've faced enough of it to leave a rather bad taste in my mouth, but, again, no one calls the police when I'm outside bird watching.

I am pretty sure lockdown has gone on too long when I see people arguing about Carlton from the Fresh Prince - in a D&D forum! ;)
Now this is the story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Balder’s Gate

In Waterdeep born and raised
On the playground where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing or coolin' or shooting some targets outside of the school
When a couple of guys, they were up to no good

Started making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared She said "you're moving with your auntie and uncle in Balder’s Gate"

I begged and pleaded with her the other day
But she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way
She gave me a kissin' and she gave me my ticket I put my armouron and said, "I might as well kick it!"
First class, yo this isn't bad,
Drinking orange juice out of glass
Is this what the people of Balder’s Gate livin' like?
Hmm this might be alright!

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the License plate said 'Fresh' and had a dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought nah forget it, yo homes- to Balder’s Gate
I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabby "Yo, halfling, smell you later!"
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the prince of Balder’s Gate.

If only such a show could be made! (y)

Experiencing racism is not one of the basic job qualifications for the position of HR manager DEI.

Carlton's race is not a factor in deciding whether or not he's the best person suited for the position.

Carlton's race (gender, religion sexuality, physical abilities, etc.) should not be a factor.

Carlton's life and work experience probably should be a factor.

We face a situation where those two things will tend to be correlated. In a world in which they were not... we'd not need to have this position.

They call that disparate impact - when members of a prohibited class (race) experience unequal outcomes. Sometimes it’s legal if no better way can be found - say income on a loan application would have a disparate impact but is essential in determining whether to grant the loan. Most the time it’s not going to be legal though. It’s going to be an uphill battle to claim in court that someone experiencing more discrimination should actually be a requirement of a job like the one described above or impact the hiring decision in any way.

His work experience should absolutely be a factor. His life? I'm not sure what you mean by that. I don't know about Great Britain, but here in the United States we don't typically ask job candidates to share their personal lives with us during interviews. If I were interviewing Carlton, all my questions would be focused on work.

Speaking as someone in Great Britain, I would say job interviews here boil down to who can roll highest in Deception?
