Rumour that Disney will have to sell Lucas Film and some parks to pay for Hulu

Trying to manifest wish fulfillment. Total BS rumors.
Agreed. Yeah there is a lot of magical thinking that in someone else’s hands Star Wars would be better. Like most sprawling franchises it has its hits and misses but overall Disney has done well by it. In my opinion Lucas has lost his touch. The prequels were not very good. Some of the worst movie dialogue I can ever remember. The last Indiana Jones was meh and the current one about to released is being panned in a lot of reviews.

Disney's batting around 50/50. Bigboffense they jotched the sequels.

Overall they're doing better than day old legends material but it's hard du to different mediums.

That's impossible to say. It probably would be done differently.

One only has to look at Disney to know that whenever they touch something, they drastically change it. They are NEVER true to the source (okay...once in awhile, but normally vary from the source a LOT). Even early Disney...their fairytale movies such as Sleeping Beauty were very different than the fairytales. More Modern Disney such as the era from the Little Mermaid to the Princess and the Frog changed the entire storyline at times.

It should have been a no brainer that Disney would not stay true to the storylines or characters established by Lucas in Star Wars.

Why would they? They didn't do that with their own movies...so why would they with someone else's stuff?

Only a few people had the power to force Disney to somewhat acquiesce to try to stay true to the story (one particular comes to mind, and even then it is debatable whether she was crying tears of happiness or disgust).

If another company had Star Wars..it probably would have gone a different direction. Whether it would be better or not...that's anyone's guess.

I had no idea anybody even watched that movie. There was no hype for it like the first one. And let's be honest even the first one was reliant on tired gimmicks like 3d for its success

Avatar and Avatar 2: Blue People in Water are, in fact, Nos. 1 and 3 all time at the Box Office.

No, they aren't inflation adjusted. But even adjusted for inflation they are both comfortably in the top 15 (2 and 13 or so, depending on how certain older movies are rated).

The lesson, as always, is don't bet against James Cameron. He could announce that his next movie is Avatar: This Time I'm Just Filming Grass Growing for Five Hours .... and I'd still assume he'd clear a billion.

Oh yeah! I knew the first one was massively popular. I remember how everyone was talking about it that whole year.

Nobody talked about the sequel. That's why it surprised me to hear that it did so well.

I like to joke the following about Diseney's cycle of acquisitions and remakes...(and preventively, it is a joke, I know it ain't 100 accurate).

Step 1 Disney has lots of girl oriented brands and no boy oriented brands.

Step 2. Acquire a boy oriented brand to plug the whole in the market.

Step 3. Make changes to the new property, this is Disney, we can't have a brand that alienates half the audience, let alone or biggest demographic.

Step 4 Disney has lots of girl oriented brands and no boy oriented brands....

Why would they?

Certainly, it is a matter of not respecting the source! Never mind that all the actors were pretty old, and that the audience wasn't going to accept re-casting them, such that new stories were absolutely necessary for the franchise to continue...
