Tales and Chronicles

Jewel of the North, formerly know as vincegetorix
Most of the times I play a cleric, I dont pray MY gods for boons, I pray the god that covers the person targeted by said boon.

If I cure an ally, I ask THEIR deity to save THEIR worshipper, not mine! I'm just a lighting rod for divine boons.

If I ask a boon for myself, I then ask the most pertinent deity that covers the boons I want.

We have reached that point in the internet dystopia where even though we did not fall for the clickbait, we still feel compelled to argue about it for pages and pages.
We're not arguing about the clickbait, we're actually taking factual information from the sourced article (not the clickbait article) and creating weird tangents from it. Pretty wholesome, actually.

I had an idea back in 2e that I never really developed where priests would start out worshiping the pantheon as a whole, but at some moderate level (like 5 or so) they would have the choice to either keep doing that (which would give them broad spell access but not much in the way of Kewl Powahs) or devote themselves to a particular god which would limit their casting of higher-level spells as well as possible weapon/armor selection but in return give some really impressive granted powers. Sort of a proto-prestige class, although the idea was more inspired by how casters worked in the Bard's Tale computer game.

They were. They've been at it for 8 years now.

Henotheism is the reason so many gods are members of the same family - it meant that you could worship Zeus as the King, Father and Judge without offending his ‘children’ or ‘siblings’ since they were all under One divine authority.
Then you have Panentheism such as found in Hinduism where all gods are but aspects of the One (Brahman)

A tiny bit of more info, although nothing that makes the novel interesting. They called it a contemporary take, so that a bad sign, that will mean it will age very poorly, you want timeless, not contemporary, when will folks learn that?

Actually no that's no how that works. You go to the afterlife of the last God you faithfully served, or if you've never denied the existance of the Gods or Betrayed your Patrons teachings in a majorly destructive way, you you just serve Kelmvour, the Gods don't demand Monoltry.
That's something of an oversimplification. While Faiths & Avatars (probably the best sourcebook on this topic) does say that it's routine for the people of the Realms to worship different deities, it explicitly calls out that this isn't the case for those who are part of an actual clergy, let alone those who become priests (i.e. receive spells and/or special power in return for their dedication). Both of those (clergy and priests) have sections specifically discussing changing faiths (which isn't a foregone conclusion, even if you do everything right there's a percentage chance you won't be accepted). Which is to say, if you're at the level of being a cleric, a commitment is expected; regularly switching back and forth makes it seem like you're not even making a pretense of commitment, which is pretty much begging to be labeled False.
