D&D General why do we lack a canine race?

we have both of the two greater categories of feiliforms, true cats and hyenas there are a few more options in that category of carnivores but we have none of the caniforms or dog like animals why do we not have dog and bear people?

the dog I know would sell and we even have a historical real world term for dog-headed men so naming would be easy?

This is pretty surprising to me since it pops up in a lot of other modern fantasy media.

I suspect it's mostly because dog people just haven't been featured in a lot of the fantasy stories that were used as inspiration for the first few iterations of D&D. Also, maybe WotC is made up of cat people instead of dog lovers? Seattle is famously rainy, so it would make sense to favor an indoor pet.

Because people want the option to play all sorts of personalities and alignments. A dog? Obviously they're all a "Good boy!" It really limits the options.

Level up has two canine races- the Garoul and the Madrai. The former are descendants of werewolves who mostly resemble anthropomorphic wolves. Garoul | Level Up The latter resemble anthropomorphic dogs of various breeds. Madrai | Level Up

The snarky answer would be, canine races never appeared in Tolkien, so, they shouldn&t be in D^D

Seriously, at this point- why not, whatever. My stance is that all of animal people are rather silly, but I know a lot of people like them.
