Internal to the TTRPG, Hasbro has been pretty good for a while letting Crawford and Perkins do their thing and hire new good people. The real hiccups were external to the game itself.
The disaster that was the Spelljammer suggests otherwise, and even Planescape was disappointing if basically functional.

What about Spelljammer was a disaster, in a way that Hasbro would care about?

What are you talking about? They're a great company; they're so committed to making sure their stuff has a flawless release that they send out the very best in hired goons to retrieve products that people legally acquire before the street date. How could anyone not understand that?

They're an inspiration to us all.
Heh. Fair enough. Joking and snark aside, we're just not going to agree here because we fundamentally interpret events differently. To me, something like what you are referencing doesn't even register. It's a total non-event to me. Completely tempest in a teacup fabricated outrage. To you, it's a major issue that has all sorts of very meaningful implications.

We are just not going to agree here.

Credit where credit's due: I do agree with what you've said here.

Yeah, fair, but I doubt they were ignoring any numbers: if you look at the history of games like this significantly north of 2 million basically never happens.
their previous game, pretty much the forerunner for BG3, sold 5M copies on Steam... and that might be lowballing it, the same site has BG3 sales at about half of what I am seeing on another

"Approximately 21.22 million copies of Baldur’s Gate 3 have been sold on Steam, according to SteamSpy stats acquired by Steamdb.info."

I don't think it's terribly unreasonable to think that your latest project is not going to outsell your last project by 400% and counting.
agreed, that wasn't the point I was making however, I was countering the one that said these types of games rarely exceed 2M in sales, so no one expected even that number.

Also it could just as well be double, it's a matter of which numbers you consider reliable (the 5M DOS2 and 11M BG3 at least are from the same site, the 22M BG3 from another)

From what little I understand, a turn based CRPG hitting 5 million sales is FANTASTIC for the genre. Most never come anywhere near that.

I mean, Solasta hasn't even broken the 1 million mark.
It was a few months since I checked, but BG3 has smashed way past what any other turn-based CRPG has sold...ever.
