Flipping this around, we can see what sorts of RPGs might benefit from a Use Rope-type skill. The RPG would have to be one where relatively gritty details matter, and where a rope breaking or coming untied might be a genuine point of concern.

Modern D&D isn't, normally, this sort of game.

I imagine the Book of Erotic Fantasy had it's own special uses for rope.
 






This is close to the heart of the problem: players that played in two casual goof around games and watched some Critical Roll thinking they are D&D experts.
What exactly is a D&D expert? And why is such a thing even important? Everyone is there to play a game (I'll get tired of this... in the fullness of time). It sounds to me, and correct if I'm wrong, that you are viewing your own game world with a level of seriousness/importance that doesn't line up with the concept of playing a social game with others. You also seem to look down on the rest of the people at the table... again, not generally a recommended approach when getting together with others socially.
