I think it's great they offered a more affordable one, but as Distracted DM mentioned you wonder whether it's worth a display piece. The best thing would have been to cut the cost on the original.
I definitely use random encounters, but they are from a list of various encounters I've already scripted and prepared. Depending on the game situation and player choices they might encounter some of these or none. It all depends on dice rolls for things such as Perception as well as decisions...

If you've been playing for as long as I have most magic items are boring. That's why as said, I homebrew and concocts many on my own. Keeps both my players and I excited and never knowing what to expect. Core magic items are simple staple fodder to through into a treasure horde.

The Breathing Castle: Thea castle breathes and sucks the breath of ones within requiring them to make a save (type dependent on game). If they fail, they become slowed, stunned or start to "drown".

As a Type 1 Diabetic since I was 10, I'd say the curse would be dependent on blood sugar level. So, when it was low they become confused and when it was high they would become fatigued.
