Is D&D Too Focused on Combat?

One other reason why combat might get more love than some of the parts of the game is the "real life" vs "fantasy" aspect. In "real-life" I deal with logistics, resources, social interactions, etc. all day long. I don't cast spells or swing a sword.

Is D&D Too Focused on Combat?

This is so true, should we have 5 pages of rules describing how to convince the barkeeper to give up more town secrets? And if the social rules are a bit too weak, or thin, what advantage does that give the players? Whereas weak or thin combat rules can really fubar all sorts things in the...

Taking Nominees for Most Anticipated RPG of 2018

Agree. I missed the KS, but this is one I really want for next year (assuming I can find it).

Farland: A 5th Edition Setting Conquered By Evil

Is POD typically identified on DriveThruRPG by the "Softcover Color Book (Standard Heavyweight)" option?

Farland: A 5th Edition Setting Conquered By Evil

This has been sitting in (on?) my wishlist for months. How much overlap is there between the Campaign Setting and the Player's Guide?

The Original End Goal of Dungeons & Dragons

That's what I thought, it wasn't for all classes, but some of them did have a Highlander approach to leveling.

The Original End Goal of Dungeons & Dragons

IIRC, wasn't it such that some of the 'name level' could only be assigned to 1 and only 1 person in the world! Basically you had to kill off, or wait for death, before you could level up. In today's DND, I just assume name levels really don't start until 20 rather than 9 like they use to...

The Most Popular Mobile RPG You've Never Heard Of

I was born in the late 60s. For me "a couple of years ago" could be anything from 2000 onward. So, I think I had the correct time-frame covered.;) Back on-topic, one other thing that makes this less likely to happen in the US is the iPhone/Android split. And the fact that very few people use...

The Most Popular Mobile RPG You've Never Heard Of

A similar thing sort of happened with Pokemon Go a couple years back; however, its popularity in the general population was short lived (2-3 weeks). That was probably the closest the US has come to this sort of thing.

    Some More N.O.W. Art Previews!

Wild: Had you not mentioned it, I would not have noticed.:) For the most part, I like the pics, but there is a bit of inconsistency between all of them.

No Thank You, Evil! A Kids' RPG From Monte Cook Games

Just a d6? Rolling fancy dice is part of the fun. I could see avoiding d4 (they are weird) and '3d12+12' notation, but just a d6, ugh! That said, I'll take a look at the KS once it begins.

GIANTSLAYER Adventure Path Is Nearly Here!

Aren't some of the greater giant types typically good aligned? If so, the 'flavor' could be needing to broker an alliance with the good giants? And I would think any evil giant stronghold is more than likely to have evil pets and evil allies, so there is no need to assume every bad guy will...

    EN World's New Year Resolutions

I love the idea of mini-AP. Basically 3-5 levels worth of content. I just read through the 5e starter module (lost mine of phandelver), it is the perfect length 45-60 pages. And just the right mix of railroad/open plus a few 1-page (or less) side quests. Or consider a 'book' of 10-12 2-4...

Early Enrollment for PATHFINDER Online Opens Today!

The world might seem bland now, but I think the world is (more or less) built by the players. As such, early adopters have some advantage.
