    Why buy?

I just bought this book, mainly because I was at a game store 30 minutes early for a game and I wanted to read it and I wanted to support the game shop because it's been a few months since I bought anything there. I sorta regret buying it now. First of all, I got used to the digest version and...

First games of Wrath of Ashardalon

Totally agree on the gateway comment. Got to play this last night. Other than a player who didn't realize it was a cooperative game (and thus hoarded all the treasure rather than passing them around to others who could use them), it was great fun. Lots of different mechanics from the...

    Analyzing WotC's 4E Product publications

Agreed. But the original poster was making a chart comparing product releases, and yet leaves out a major aspect of content distribution. The fact that WotC is currently looking for additional computer developers kinda shows where their priorities are...and physical books are probably not on...

    Analyzing WotC's 4E Product publications

This analysis left out DDI. Considering that DDI is producing millions of dollars of gross profit for WotC (estimate based on current subscribers that also use WotC forums, so in fact might be much higher), I think this analysis falls short of seeing the whole picture.

    Encounters with the "Living"

Those sorts of things should NOT happen. If it's happening, you should report such activity to the organizations responsible. Most likely, it's a local organizer that's either overstepping their authority or it's a communication issue. If you're not going to reveal which convention it is...

A short guide to the Essential Thief's movement tricks

I think you're underestimating Unbalancing trick. Go right after a badguy. Move to flank badguy with ally. Hit it and it goes prone. All of your friends with melee attacks now have combat advantage. Plus, the next round, the bad guy has to lose a move action to get up or it takes a -2 to all...

    HoftFL Cleric domain powers

Change the base ability of Resurrection to another ritual of about 8th level more appropriate to the god involved. Something that's as powerful as a raise dead ritual, but just as rarely used. Control Weather perhaps?

    Free Ritual Casting

How balanced would it be for a daily utility power to remove the component cost of a ritual spell of equal level or lower? I was looking at the list of ritual spells and it seems that for the most part rituals seem well balanced to me, about equal in power to a normal Wizard utility power of...

How many people play D&D, and what percentage play various editions?

I asked this question from my readers recently. It turns out that almost everyone plays multiple game systems, so it's not accurate to think of gamers as distinctly 4e or 3e players or whatever. Among my readers, more play 3.5 than 4e, and more play 4e than pathfinder. The 'other' category...

Help me make a sidekick NPC for a player

I third the suggestion of a companion character. If you want to make sure that all attention is on the PC rather than the companion, you might want to make the companion an animal (dog, horse, etc) that doesn't talk. Though the idea of a small sized cat (with Eladrin Bard stats) is amusing to...

When you can push an opponent on hit because of 2 reasons

The condition is landing a hit, so both would trigger I think. But I think this is one of those gray areas where the DM just has to make a ruling. Personally, I view push/pull effects similar to damage. So if one feat says deal 2 extra damage on a hit and a second says deal 3 extra damage on...

    Multiclass feat and retraining

The rule on retraining (PHB pg 28) doesn't specify where you get the power from, so I would say yes.

    Red Box

It's good, but I think the market audience for the red box are people who have not played any sort of RPGs before. I'd actually recommend the Ravenloft board game to veteran gamers instead. The board game mechanics are obviously different from 4e, but the mechanics of the board game is quite...

    Essentials: An end to MADness?

Even if sticking to just PHB1, you can ignore MADness. It just meant that if you went with one stat over another, it limited the powers that you could use (well, maybe for Str Paladins, who had no choice for their 9th level Daily).

Black Diamond Games Blog - An Experiment

Not to mention that even those who actually are in love with 4e are also likely to never ever use their PHBs anymore because they have both DDI and the new Rules Compendium. Getting rid of a book you never use to get a $25 discount is a pretty good bargain, especially considering the fact...
