D&D 5E How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

There are lot's of options here, and as others pointed out much depends on the assumtions of the person. Me, personally, see the Warlock as the perfect envisioning of the Templar class, to the point that I wished it existed back in 2E. I'd just reskin it's "source" as divine* and go for it. *...

D&D 5E How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

I don't equating a templar with a job (and thus a background) is doing it a favor. I'm quite sure there will be a lot of people in service of a sorcerer-king templarate, but just as not every "fighter" is a Fighter, not every "templar" is a Templar. There will be bureucrats, tax enforcers and...

D&D 5E How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

Nobody reasonably expects (I think) a new edition to be the same verbatim as an older one. A lot has been introduced in the game that simply didn't exist at the time. It's quite reasonable that a setting will put limitations on what's allowable from the core rules and introduce new features...

Could be that, I don't have it right here.

I know where you are coming from and I also was a little confused by the D&D interpretation of what "psionic" powers are the first time I met them. I used to imagine a psion like a Charles Xavier type. Nevertheless, D&D/DS has a different view from ours and pirokinetic is part of it. Anyway, i...

IIRC there was a complete level by level transformation gallery in the supplement Preservers and Defilers.

All viable choices. After all the PCs are by definition exceptional beings, so while all your descriptions are more or less of exceedingly rare if not unique individuals, why should a player be barred by them. The Divine Soul Sorcerer you describe is the closest thing I see for a to-be Avangion...

D&D 5E How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

Actually, I don't know much about the psionic variants in non printed manuals. I see them as a little reflawored versions of existing classes for players wanting to add psionics in their more or less standard settings, which is a thing I generally I'm not much interested in. Dark Sun, on the...

D&D 5E How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

Sorcerers would be bound to the same defiling/preserving rules as wizards. The difference is that wizards choose to follow their path for power, while sorcerers are born with it, whether they want it or not.

D&D 5E How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

Good ideas. The game grew so much since 2E that there are many mode different classes and subclasses that can be used to customize the game. I guess it's obvious that no setting or game is expected to have exactly all the options presented in core + every expansion. Like someone already noted...

Elderly wizard. "Why don't you learn magic like your family has been doing for decades instead of wasting your time with mind tricks?" Young psionicist: "OK, boomer".

D&D 5E How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

I agree. Everybody has a personal and skewed view of what Dark Sun is (well, like any other matter) and that's what drives his opinion. That's why no setting update to new rules will ever satisfy everybody. Me, personally, I'd like to stick more to the feeling than the rule (of course based on...

D&D General Why Exploration Is the Worst Pillar

I always thought of "exploration" as everything that's not combat and speaking with NPC, so that includes a lot of things. Overland exploration, including getting lost, foraging, wheather... Dungeon exploration, with traps, puzzles, mazes, levers... City exploration, including shops, churches...
