I'm about to embark on my third time running Curse of Strahd. I've added some touch ups and additions of my own, but wanted to hear other suggestions for how you have or would add to or punch up Curse of Strahd.
The why is because every game is different and without understanding what caused you to want to make the change, I really can't say if it's balanced or not.
With no other information, I'd say i'd say your proposed homebrew rule is not balanced. Cantrip scaling exists for a reason and there is...
I have guns in one of my games but I've never spent that much time thinking about it because honestly, trying to mock up accurate ballistics and firearms development in a 5e game just sounds like more trouble then it's worth to me. I'm not running a realistic physics simulator, I'm running a...
I can't agree more. Cantrip scaling exists for a reason, I think you're trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. The one exception is that I think scaling eldritch blast alone to warlock levels isn't bad. It nerfs one level warlock dips slightly.
Agreed. Counterspell and Shield are fantastic tools to have at your disposal.
Additionally, depending if you're doing more melee or ranged attacks, consider paladin and ranger spells. They have some fantastic options for boosting normal attacks and you get them earlier then those classes...
I just had a fun short (2-session) game as a Lizardfolk fighter/ranger. The 2-shot was level 10, so I can't speak about early optimization or balance, but a dex fighter/ranger works really well with lizardfolk's racial abilities. The Con and Wis from the race work well with the classes. Dex...
I also always let new characters come in at the same level as the previous one. I just don't think its fun to make one party member weaker then the others and it also sets up a higher chance of that character dying as well.
For items, it really depends on the item levels of the rest of the...
Fighters definitely don't suck in 5e. I've run and played several fighters and haven't found them to be weak. One of the key things to remember about 5e fighters is that they are a short rest based class. So if a DM isn't letting the party take short rests they'll lag behind, but a well rested...
It has references to the original but is definitely more of tribute. It does point out a point where you could easily add some of the content from the original into this version.
