The VOIDRUNNER'S CODEX is coming! Explore new worlds, fight oppressive empires, fend off fearsome aliens, and wield deadly psionics with this comprehensive boxed set expansion for 5E and A5E!
Lots of interesting ideas in this thread. A number of people hearken back to the wizards from AD&D, but as someone who started playing back in the late 70’s, I humbly disagree.
Reducing the wizard’s HD for 6 to 4 doesn’t work for me, as 5E monsters hit harder and more frequently than in 1E. My...
I only run 5E D&D games at the moment. For my current campaign I used the Forgotten Realms as the backdrop and added my non-FR modules and homebrew. I treat FR as a very large map, and I will pull bits and pieces of the official lore if I need it, but for the most part the canonical lore and...
I stand corrected. The scenario is very hypothetical, but as DM I would have the BBEG:
Drop the fighter in melee range with the spell.
Grab the fighter’s weapon.
Move and Misty Step to cover.
This is definitely how I am leaning. I am taking a break from DM’g at the moment and I started on a House Rules document and it is quite long!
I generally use max HP for all monsters; I give them better weapons if it makes sense; and I always have more than the bog-standard creature in a group...
I’m voting a tentative no.
I’ve only DM’d LMOP and I TPK’d the group in the Cragmaw Cave (I had them taken hostage). I’ve played part of WDH, and I thought it was tough, as a mystery, as combat was secondary (which I liked).
As an old-school player/DM, I like combat to be dangerous, and I...
This is how i (vaguely) recall playing B2 back in the day. The Keep was home base where treasure was spent and XP awarded, and the Caverns were the dungeon to pillage. The road between was inconsequential. To be honest, the only part of B2 that I ever really liked was the Keep. I find the...
I voted permissive, because of the two choices it is closer to how I aspire to run my games. Like Lanefan, I don’t generally discourage a player from trying anything, but I do try to temper their expectations (the level 1 fighter is NOT going to cast a fireball by waving their hands) as needed...
This - except change ‘probably’ to ‘definitely’.
Smartass comments have to be spur of the moment (or written by professionals and delivered by Ryan Reynolds) to be effective.
I read the OP as saying the player has a PC that is being actively played in my game, and he plays that same character in another game and when he shows up for the next session of my game the characters has the experience, treasure, and magic gained from the other game.
Hard no from me. I...
I agree fully that this ‘theory’ is bizarre, at best.
Again, I agree fully.
Perhaps because I have been playing this game for a long time (46 years , give or take) and I default to more old school views, I have a lot of difficulty understanding the concept of ‘owning’ a make-believe character...
I voted yes in both of the SRD polls.
I ran (and may run again) a 40-50 session game, that I had to stop due to real-life commitments. The game is PHB minus some stuff (including multiclassimg). I would have no issue playing basic PCs, in fact, I prefer simpler to complex.
