re: No 4E for Necromancer Games!

I dunno, the bit about legal costs really reads like the kind of thing you'd expect a legal department to 'strongly recommend' to it's bosses.

Could I make a PC class called the demagogue?

Because i've been planning to for a while, but i'm wondering if this would qualify as altering a term refrenced in the SRD (since there is an NPC template of the same name in the DMs toolkit secion of the DMG and refrenced in the SRD)?

Another crack at a martial controller: The Swashbuckler

Hi! A week or so ago I posted a thread suggesting that barbarians would make good strikers, or maybe even controllers. The response was mixed, but i'm still interested in the idea, and still concerned that the different roles (such as defender) might end up giving rise to classes which are too...

Gandalf - Patient Zero of Bad DMPC Epidemic?

Plenty of books have horrid, self-insertion characters who the author treats as an extension of their ego. I'm not saying gandalf is one, but such characters suck in books much as they suck in games.

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

Even if the PCs aren't heroes, they're still the Player-Characters and the DM should always keep that in mind. To use an extreme example, even if they are literally faceless drones in a crowd, these drones are the important ones because they are the ones the players are playing. The game should...

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

I disagree. The PCs are the player characters. They are the characters the players are playing. The NPCs are nothing compared to that. They's tools. Devices. They should never, EVER come even close to being as important or as noteworthy as the PCs in the mind of the DM. Ever. Leading on from...

Anyone have a concept for a Divine striker or controller?

yeah, i always thought a mystic or prophet would be a good counterpoint to the cleric. While the cleric represents the church, a mustic or prophet would be a more moses-like figure, in a simple robe, robe belt, waving a staff around and screwing with the status quo. There could even be a fair...

Richard Baker on Orcus and Deity Slaying

I would assume she falls under the 'right place at the right time' clause they mentioned. Any god stupid enough to step into sigil is in trouble, but I doubt she could exert much power elsewhere.

I think Barbarians should be strikers, or maybe even controllers

Thanks for you thoughts, everyone :)

I think Barbarians should be strikers, or maybe even controllers

It's not about holding them back or tieing them down, that's my point- it's about scattering them, doing damage to a lot of them at once, knowing them around, and other manuvers iof that sort. It's about controlling the battlefield, not freezing bits of it in place. By that logic people are...

I think Barbarians should be strikers, or maybe even controllers

Exactly, and I think it would be more fun themanticly than another magical controller or whatever. A barbarian or beseker controller could cast his foes into fits of terror, fling them around the place, let loose a storm of blows that act as an AE attack (the wizard AE was int and implement...

I think Barbarians should be strikers, or maybe even controllers

Do you have a link? I'd be interested in the thread if there were some good posts on it. I honestly think there's a good chance of them writing barbs up as a striker, IAE i'll probably end up doing a 'beserker' controller class myself once the books are out, just to see if it works.

I think Barbarians should be strikers, or maybe even controllers

Exactly, the tactics would be quite differnt (not as much range for instance) but he would still be a controller since a lot of what he would be doing is moving enemies around and otherwise causing havok. And yeah the whole 'terrifying rage' thing would a good way to describe some abilities, as...

I think Barbarians should be strikers, or maybe even controllers

Just an errant thought, but i've been thinking of the as yet unmentioned classes, and wether they may fit in a niche other than the one we might assume. It seems likely at least on the surface that the Barbarian would be a defender, like the fighter or paladin. They're a front-line fighter...

Not Everyone is Interested in Powergaming [merged]

The biggest fallacy of all is insisting that everyone can get along in the same game, despite varying play-styles. Powergaming can and does get in the way of roleplaying for many people, and people have a right to say that if that is their preference. It's not a fallacy, it's a fact in many...
