Help Me Find Dark Fantasy Novels! Please!

I'd recommend the following: The Darkblade series by Dan Abnett: a true tale of murder, betrayal, and the thirst of power. The Von Carstein series by Steven Savile: Vampires as they should be.

    Heroic Frequency

As others have stated, there is no "adventurer" profession. There are small groups of mercenaries, witch hunters, sorcerer covens, ect... that fill a similar roles

(Campaigns) Making your Campaign Independent of Rules

Over time I've taken steps to ensure that my campaign setting is as rules independent as possible. However the campaign is very flavor dependent, so some rule sets are automatically discounted.

    why orc pc?

Mechanically its much easier to fit an Orc into a party, they don't have the arms length list of special powers that a Drow does. I've never featured a Drow in one of my games, and have never featured them as a race in a campaign. They have to much cultural baggage (FR) to be included without...

Anyone else think 4th Ed is to combat WoW?

It's well known that the people in charge of WoW are D&D players (at least a good portion are). Azeroth was never an official D&D setting (nor was it published until after the games had come out), I'd bet it was Metzen's homebrewed campaign that he converted into the storyline for the Warcraft...

Are your games continuous or episodic?

My games are about 50/50 ... episodic adventures (though not games, rarely do my adventures fit in a single session) often with an over arching plot linking them together.

    The Aboleth!!

Illithids and Aboleths are closely related IMC, they are part of the same evolutionary cycle... In the distant future, as the sun turned red, the beings who were once Aboleths created the first Illithid Larva. These Larva were sent into the past, scattered across the history of the world...

D&D: High Fantasy vs. Sword & Sorcery

I've always preferred S&S, in both my reading and my gaming

Does social standing have a place in your game?

Does social standing have a place in your game? Yes it does, though most times my players are at the bottom of the social ladder. It is one of the ways I determine how the NPC's will react. When you make up a background for your character how much depth do you put into it? a moderate...

    Rate Transformers

Loved it, gave it a 10. There were lots of little bits in the movie, like what was written on the side of Blockade. I also like how it seems that Starscream gets his shot in at Megatron at the end (it appeared to me that he was in the final flight that bombarded Megatron).

How much technologywould you allow in a non-steampunk setting?

Guns have been a feature of my D&D games since I first started DMing. Railroads (for long distance travel) where featured once, as an oddity. Printing presses have only come into play once, when a character printed a pamphlet decrying a major religion. Before and after that printed materials...

How Dangerous is your campaign world?

It can get fairly hot along the borders between different races (i.e. between civilization and barbarians). but for the most part Joe Farmer has as much to worry about as a peasant in our Middle Ages.

    D&D as a (good) MMORPG

Before the expansion I figured that every 3 levels in WoW was approximately 1 level in D&D (lvl 60 WoW = lvl 20 D&D). So another 10 lvls would be 22-25 in D&D. The complexity of the character is far beyond what can be done in pen and paper game though... btw... we have spell check now?

    D&D as a (good) MMORPG

I've played DDO, NWN, and currently play WoW. Thought the d20 system is a good foundation for a computer game it doesn't really fit the bill. It is TO bound by the tabletop environment for which it was created, and cannot take advantage of the flexibility allowed by a computer (which can take...

June - What are you reading?

I've been reading "The Fabric of the Cosmos" by Brian Green. Its a great bit that has realy helped explain some of the more complex aspects of relativity and quantum mechanics
