I just finished DMing my second 1-20 campaign! I'm actually really impressed with how well 5e runs at high levels- combat is more elaborate, but each round doesn't take an absurd amount of time. A good fight still just takes 45 minutes or so- I remember running third edition where a single high...
I think the main issue here is letting abilities refresh at the end of each session. This is a problem that is only going to get worse as spellcasting PCs raise in level. I would suggest having two or three part adventures, otherwise you are on your way to nerfing the entire spellbook.
Honestly, all I really want are domain rules for high level play. Once Colvilles "Strongholds and Followers" book finally comes out, and his "Kingdom and Warfares" follow-up, I'm good. Just publish adventures for occasional inspiration and I'm square on 5e.

I bought it and skimmed through a bit- not going to run it as a MegaDungeon, but I think it's SUPER useful as an Underdark resource- maybe even moreso than "Out of the Abyss" was! There's lots of mind flayers, Drow, Aboleth, etc.
I should have kept my notes better! I tend to use the same file sessions by session, I always just delete the week before and keep cranking ahead.
