Resistance is futile... you will upgrade to 3.5!

I won't be switching to 3.5, at least not wholesale. Going over the Word doc Olgar was so kind to provide, I find I disagree with 75% of the listed changes. They're "fixing" a lot of things that plain weren't broken.

What type of DM are you??

Ummm....where's "Explorer," or "Worldbuilder?" You know, the kind of DM who creates environments, and turns the PCs loose to explore and make what they will of....

    Revision Spotlight (6/17)

So, Andy Collins said that this feat was designed somewhat to knock down archery a bit? Okay, I can buy that to a certain extent. Rapid Shot needs a tweak, if that's the case. I don't hear anyone in this thread arguing that the *idea* of deflecting arrows is a bad one. I do see people saying...

    Revision Spotlight (6/17)

Bad design, to me, means that it takes all granularity, all scalability, out of that situation. D&D combat is all about granularity and scalability; you don't see absolute nonrandom events, really. Point Blank Shot doesn't mean you automatically hit; it means you're better (get a bonus) in...

    Revision Spotlight (6/17)

I have a couple of different ways you could try fixing the feat. First, simply raise the prereqs so it's not quite as easy to get at 1st level. Instead of Dex 13+, maybe Dex 16+ or 17+. A Dex of 13+ is a smidge above average for all people, and pretty average for adventuring types. Certainly...

    Avoid this vendor!

Here's hoping everyone gets their screens. I bought one of the three-panel ones last year, and I love it. My FLGS has ordered a four-panel one for me as well. I wish I'd had these 20 years ago. Again, I do hope everyone gets settled and soon--this is a great product, and I'd hate to see it...

Bow & Blade? Splatbooks return in 2004?

According to the blurb on the EN front page, it sure sounds like a splatbook--feats, prestige classes, etc. etc. By them. The chef's the kobold. The curry's usually lamb or chicken. ;)

Mystic Theurge PrC - They've got to be kidding!

The MT will only be a level, sometimes two, behind the single-class caster, though. It's not like they're casting spells 3 levels lower than their companions. Early on, it's more of a liability than later--a Clr3/Wiz3/MT1 will be casting 2nd-level spells; a Clr7 will be casting 4th. Ouch...

Bow & Blade? Splatbooks return in 2004?

Instead, they're putting out hardcover splatbooks. The Complete Warrior is a hardcover 160-page splatbook, presumably to be followed by more hardcover splatbooks. They must be in league with chiropractors. ;)

What product are you looking forward to most this year????

At the top of my RPG shopping list for 2003 is the Judges Guild/Necro Wilderlands Campaign Set. That is going to be an excellent, excellent thing.

Is your love for 3E waning? Waxing? Staying steady?

My enthusiasm for 3e has on the whole stayed quite steady. I've had a few ups and downs, but those were more related to personal free time and energy issues than to my love for the game. I expect that this game will keep me entertained for at least another year.

Necro and Noble Knight Team Up for Judges Guild Fans

Kudos to the truly noble people at Noble Knight games!

    Does anyone here play "Chainmail"?

Chainmail is fun and addictive. I really didn't think I'd like it, but the designers did a great job of taking the D&D combat rules and turning them into a fun wargame. The packaging does the figures no justice. In every case, I have found the miniatures inside the boxes looked far better...

    Cool uses for Prestidigitation

I've found that I have uses for prestidigitation at least once per session that I'm running a magic-user. I use its minor levitation ability a lot for various purposes. I often keep two or three instances of it prepared, just in case. The only cantrip I use more often is detect magic.

The Oddest Thing You've Done As A DM When Running A Game

Strangest thing I've done so far: While running an Amber Diceless RPG session, I rolled a wandering monster check, right in front of the players. At least one of them nearly had apoplexy. But the strangest things are the ones I haven't done yet... ;)
