D&D 5E Thoughts on letting spellcasters change elemental damage as a rule...

I respectfully challenge your notion, but I am not trying to convince you to like the rule. The effects can be rationalized and abstracted to agree with both the physical and magical nature of the fantasy world. For example, why can't a ray of fire slow you down as you hobble from the burns...

    D&D 5E Combat strategy post-mortem

Okay, not sure if anyone would want to help me with a rudimentary post-mortem on my Peryton encounter that just occurred last night using TaleSpire fully for the first time. I don't DM too much, so any basic thoughts for improving combat tactics and "encounter variables" are appreciated...

D&D 5E winter wolf pelt - how much should it cost and what does it do?

So, I think I will go with 250-300 gp and provide the following: advantage on stealth in arctic/snowy/tundra terrain (it's pure white) advantage on CON saves vs. avoiding exhaustion (light, extra soft, and yet provides ample insulation) advantage on reflex saves against cold damage (sheds snow...

what if pass without a trace was also active?

D&D 5E winter wolf pelt - how much should it cost and what does it do?

Running a 3rd level adventure. I would like the winter wolf pelt to provide something special against cold, but not sure what would be OP and how much it would cost. Previous D&D versions had such an item providing a resistance of 5 against cold damage, but also made the wearer more vulnerable...

    D&D 5E Invisibility

Sorry to belabor the point, but how would folks adjudicate invisibility in the terrain with falling snow? Does the snow that falls onto the character become invisible? I have an arctic adventure working and can see this situation happening.

    D&D 5E Invisibility

As someone who will be adjudicating this for the first time, I am interested in this debate so I can set out the expectation to my party. So, from a fantasy/magic perspective, I would think that material/objects external to the invisible subject are able to be concealed as invisible…because...

    D&D 5E Making Challenging Combats?

Great thread. I am glad this explained a lot, because I have pulled back on some encounters I had in mind (for my first 5E DMing experience) thinking that I was heading for TPKs based on the encounter builder. I will be less afraid to challenge the party. Great question. Great responses.

D&D 5E Thoughts on human variant less abilities/additional skill point/starting feat

Just wondering if anyone has allowed the human variant along with the standard human ( +1 to all abilities) feature? Pros? Cons? FYI. I am starting the party at 3rd, and letting them have a starting feat already. If someone can play the human variant, they would start with two feats. Not...

D&D 5E Thoughts on letting spellcasters change elemental damage as a rule...

All great feedback and lots of stuff for me to consider. The player in this case wants to basically have all his pyromancer's spells affect with fire damage because of his infernal and draconic blood lines...basically having an innate relationship with fire. At this point, I am thinking of...

    D&D 5E sleep vs tasha's laughter

yeah...it's definitely not a pancea, that's for sure. Separate topic... I love The Tick. :)

D&D 5E Thoughts on letting spellcasters change elemental damage as a rule...

I was asked to consider allowing spellcasters be able to select the type of elemental damage a spell can do regardless of the one listed in the spell. The argument was that some elements are less represented, and therefore, if you have less selection if you want to pursue a particular...

    D&D 5E sleep vs tasha's laughter

Agreed, but hopefully a player knows their DM well enough to know how such things will play out. But, while it doesn't really scale up, silent image (similar to THL) never really changes to become "less effective" over time. If an illusion worked on a low level creature with a low...

    D&D 5E sleep vs tasha's laughter

Silent image a pit trap or green slime on the floor behind you as you run away. Hide behind a wall, a boulder, or an illusory door with a padlock on it..."they didn't go in there." A lurking monster set to ambush...but not stealthy...draw there attention away--a displacer beast, a cave fisher...

D&D 5E Feedback on Late Combat Tactics?

Thanks to everyone for setting me straight on using this monster. Much appreciated!
