Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Takes On Theurgy & War Magic

If a Theurge takes the Tempest domain, they can maximise lightning bolt damage. +20 damage per opponent for using a divine channeling (+2.5/spell level thereafter). That's extremely snacky, verging on too good. EDIT: +35 damage/target on a Chain Lightning.

D&D 5E The Dangers of Overreliance on Leomund's Tiny Hut (3rd Level Spell)

As I made clear in my earlier post you are factually incorrect to assert that a hemisphere - half a sphere - must have a floor. A sphere is hollow using the only consistent definition, that from geometry. You might imagine a solid sphere (a closed 3 dimensional disc in geometric terms) but half...

D&D 5E The Dangers of Overreliance on Leomund's Tiny Hut (3rd Level Spell)

Just wanted to say, in topology and geometry, a sphere is defined as being hollow (it's the set of all points at distance r from an origin if we're in a metric space, of dimension d). So cut it in half, and it has no floor. Plus game sense, too. It shouldn't have a floor because otherwise it is...

D&D 5E 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

Yes, personally, I'd use encumbrance rules with this build (I don't generally bother with them). 8 Strength in full plate feels wrong, even for Dwarves! I was just clarifying the rule.

    13th Age coming to Glorantha

I've been working on a 5E Glorantha conversion; it's reasonably straight forward. The biggest changes have been to the Cleric spell list, it's pretty much unique per deity. Oh, and the addition of a Shaman class and the excising of the Druid (can't think of a place it'd fit without twisting...

D&D 5E 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

I got my PHB right here: "Your speed is not reduced by wearing heavy armour." In the Dwarf race, under speed. That covers the Strength penalty by any straight-forward reading.

D&D 5E 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

The penalty for wearing armour with below the listed Strength is -10 feet to your speed, but Dwarves have an ability which circumvents this. So there's no minimum Strength for a Dwarf Wizard in Plate armour.

D&D 5E 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

2 level dip into Tempest Cleric; rest of your levels as an Evoker (although you could be any Wizard or Sorcerer, really). This gives you 1 maximised lightning or thunder spell per short rest, plus some healing flexibility/armour etc. At level 7 you can cast a 54 point lightning bolt; at 13th...

D&D 5E Any authors you think should be in Appendix E but are not?

I think it serves multiple purposes now, actually. Partly inspiration from the fantasy of the original designers, partly good books, partly (it pains me to say) tie-in novels with D&D that they are hoping might earn some extra sales. Joe Abercrombie has earned his place on that list far more...

D&D 5E Any authors you think should be in Appendix E but are not?

Sadly, no. Just checked again in case I'd gone temporarily blind.

D&D 5E Any authors you think should be in Appendix E but are not?

You're right; I never really enjoyed them but I did enjoy the cheesy Dragonlance books when they came out. In retrospect, they were pretty awful too but I overlooked that because of my familiarity and affection for them as they partly formed my view of fantasy. RA Salvatore will probably be the...

D&D 5E Any authors you think should be in Appendix E but are not?

They missed out Joe Abercrombie, which is indefensible, I think. And tragically, they included RA Salvatore :-P

Have you heard about the "Pathfinder Online Technology Demo" Kickstarter?

Curse them! Trying to minimise their risks! It's Un-American! Someone call Ayn Rand! :-P

D&D 5E How would you like 5e to handle combat roles.

I'm sorry, I don't think that's true in Fourth Edition. The combat role of "the Fighter class" doesn't match the breadth of scope belonging to the fantasy archetype of "a Fighter". It is limited, highly limited, in part because it must adhere to its role of defender and in part because it can't...

D&D 5E How would you like 5e to handle combat roles.

In my opinion, this isn't true in the way that roles were implemented in 4E. Character classes before had things they were usually naturally better at, by virtue of the archetype they filled. But the strengths of the class arose naturally out of the vision of the kind of character it...
