That sounds nice, Starfyre. There are several game systems that dealt with armor this way--I think Palladium did, back in the 80s. I could see this being an optional module. I think 3.5's UA had rules for this, no? Only the DR part?

The rules were for field and full plate (and magic versions thereof), and they were in the AD&D UA, as noted above. I tried using them when they came out, but gave up: we forgot the DR sometimes, forgot the armor hp sometimes, and so on. A lot of bucks, but not a lot of bang.

Welp, it didn't stick in late AD&D for a reason, folks. It's too fiddly for D&D.

Armor with DR and hp was tried out with the introduction of Field Plate and Full Plate back in AD&D 1.5 (Unearthed Arcana). It was a very annoying extra step in every combat.

My fears have already been discussed above: 1. Complexity will grow so much that the core rules are closer to 3e or 4e than BECMI 2. 5e won't be successful enough for Hasbro (maybe because Hasbro won't give it the marketing budget it deserves) and the game simply fails

I think that first level PCs should be different than average NPCs in two ways: 1. Class features. PCs should, at level 1, have at least a couple class features that normal folks don't have. A warrior should have a fighting style specialty, and the herbalist isn't casting cure light...

I like the variant with the slowest natural healing: spend hit dice during short rest or long rest regain hit dice only during long rest--but no automatic "up to full" I want heroic natural healing, but I don't want it as easy as in 4e.
