I understand the Cyclical Initiative... and as one of my players pointed out if the fighter goes first there might be one less rat to attack the party... and we all know that less attacks is a good thing...

The new surprise (-20 initiative) mechanic seem a bit odd if you send in a second group of monsters. My point...

4 Characters... 2 died in the 1st room.... 1 in the 'Runes' room and 1 in the hallway that connects to the 'Forge' room.
I played it as written... so they faces the elemental, 2 hounds and 2 traps...
Everybody had a blast...

but I still like the 1-5,6-10 etc part so Static & Wound Categories of 5. :D

Possibly; but as I stated in the OP... The players asked for something and I'm trying to create that something.
Me too, that is why I said yes to my Players without pause.
BTW. I know some people don't like the idea of grit (I've seen the threads). That is not why I posted... I was looking...

Tried out version 1 and ran into some problems. :erm:
First, play with a PC’s maximum hit points was more work than we thought. Maximum hit points goes down so does the healing surge value and the bloodied value. Three more things to calculate and keep track of – and a lower...
That's something I'm going to bring up again next time we chat.
They have set up their PCs since the first talk about "grit".
We'll see if the paladin & fighter are still on board - the rogue, wizard, and cleric probably won't care.

My players asked me if there was a way to add some ‘long term’ damage (or grit) to the game. They have trouble with the idea of sleeping away all of their damage. So, with their help, I put together a rule set that works with the hit point system from the PHB.
So far they like it -- but...
