    Shadowdark Finally Played Shadowdark

When I played my first game of DND (white box, with Greyhawk etc) in late 77, the group at the FLGS was already including bits from the Arduin Grimoire, including crits and fumbles, which could be brutal. There were also a couple of races cribbed from the rules, like Phraints, and then spells...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I enjoy Critical Role in concept, and have watch episodes in each of the campaigns, but it is just too much time for me to invest. I have completed some of their smaller, 8 episode arcs, including DH and Age of Umbra. Brendan Lee Mulligan is not my cup of tea, and to be fair, I have only tried...

5E Powered Gamma World: What Should It Look Like

If by Gonzo, you mean those crazy Rabbits, I will probably drag out my old copy of Aftermath! to scratch the post apocalyptic itch.. If WOTC did bring back Gamma World I think it should be similar in tone and flavor, with more modern mechanics. I would also like to see an option for...

    Shadowdark Finally Played Shadowdark

Like Daggerheart, I was not sure I would like the game before I purchased. Way back in 77, when we played DND in the white box, and the supplements like Greyhawk, etc. I did not enjoy the game and quickly found other systems, and when I did play, it was with a DM that would be have been great no...

Do you remember your first RPG purchase?

I received the original white box for Christmas and then bought the Greyhawk supplement, some Ral Partha minis, and this big stapled fanzine called Alarums and Excursions.

    Let's Read Daggerheart +

I think that if you do want to track food etc and use the above consumable rules, setting a countdown to forage, scavenge, hunt or otherwise obtain food when you are out and then have the players mark stress if they have not found any when the countdown ends, would work well together.

    D&D 5E (2024) Why are you still playing D&D?

I started with the white box and Greyhawk etc back in 1977 and enjoyed the concept, but not really the game. We played a little of 1 E AD&D, and then switched to other games, and did not play DND again until about 7 years ago when my oldest son and his wife needed more players for their game. I...

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

I have heard good things about Castle and Crusades. Good luck with whatever you end up choosing!

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

I remember playing Melee and then Wizard before they became the Fantasy Trip. I also played the original versions of Tunnels and Trolls and Monsters! Monsters! You have some good old school games on your list!

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

Our group is currently playing 2024 5E; 3 of us alternate as Adventurers League DMS out our FLGS. We have a group of regular players, and are just finishing up a Campaign. We will be playing Cyberpunk for a brief period as a few people take vacation, and then will return to 2024 5E. However, I...

Anyone remember Space Quest by Tyr Games?n

This was a fun little one book space opera game from the late 70s designed by some of the people who later designed Bushido. Daredevils, and Aftermath! While the later 3 all used the same basic system, Space Quest followed the D&D book of character classes and levels but also had a rudimentary...

D&D General D&D History 101: Origins of Classes

I would be interested in some history of the third party supplements that popped up almost immediately, most of them not sanctioned by TSR. We routinely used the Arduin Grimoire, Warlock and Warlock’s Tower (Cal Tech’s house rules) and others along side the white box and its supplements.

D&D General D&D 2024 does not deserve to succeed

Paraphrasing William Shatner on the famous old SNL skit..."It's just..a..GAME.." Also, why should we assume another D20 based system is the superior option to replace 5E?
