The PHb Beast Master says..."If you are incapacitated or absent, the beast acts on its own, focusing on protecting you and itself." .. Seems they're trying to clarify that a bit. Ultimately, if the PC Ranger isn't around to command the animal, it's up to the DM to decide what the animal is going...

If the do another MtG book, I would be most interested in Kaladesh.... As far as another setting, it's got to be different than FR. While I have liked Greyhawk, I don't think it's a big difference to FR (flavor wise anyway). I think I'm leaning toward wanting a Dark Sun setting. I don't know...

A few things I use.... A critical in combat is figured out as follows… Roll damage die + Max number on damage die + Stat modifier. (ex. Long Sword crit would be 1D8 + 8 + Str Modifier) In combat a character can choose to act on a lower initiative. That initiative becomes their new one All die...
