    D&D 5E Dex barbarian

Let me reiterate, just in case I was misunderstood, or to help anyone out in advance. Giving a player a +1 Shield or Bracers of Defense when you know they're primed for it can be much more unbalancing to the game than many other things. I've been at tables where the DM gave +2 Plate and +2...

    D&D 5E Improved Beast Master

Those are all helpful comments on the current system. Any comments on my proposed subclass? I think it would still be balanced, as well as more fun and more useful especially at higher levels, but what do you think?

    D&D 5E Dex barbarian

It will be fine. Balance within the party is more important. The barbarian won’t be “too” tanky. The AC will still be lower than a full plate and shield paladin, especially if anyone ever gets magic armor. Too Tanky comes up really when someone’s AC gets past 21, or someone gets a +1 Shield. If...

    D&D 5E Dex barbarian

I would allow a Barbarian to use dex with a specific subclass, or maybe simply a feat. Remember, in late levels, Barbarians aren’t exactly super powerful compared to many other classes. They’re not at much risk of becoming OP, unlike some classes.

D&D 5E Would appreciate any input on a homebrew feat - Wild Shape Adept

A simple way of limiting it's use while still making it useable a lot, especially at higher levels, and yet it not add significantly to the power of the class is to tie it to an existing limited resource, like spells slots. A key limit might better be CR than size, as that balances power, and I...

    D&D 5E Improved Beast Master

Please help me draft an improved beast master. I haven't added a ton of text explaining the reasoning behind all these design choices, but I'll give a basic explanation to begin with. The goal is to have a ranger with a real beast as a companion. Not a magical elemental spirit in the shape of...

D&D 5E Enhancing "Princes of the Apocalypse" (Practical stuff to try at your table!)

I could write a very long post about details, but the main difference is that it is much more narrative, and much less rules heavy. Even the rules themselves, like character stats, are very simplified. As to the campaign, the biggest changes are the lethality and intention of bad guys. The...

D&D 5E Enhancing "Princes of the Apocalypse" (Practical stuff to try at your table!)

Not only am I a DM for my adult friends, I'm also a dad-DM for my young kids (5 and 7). I've started them through the same campaign as the grown-ups, but simplified and cleaned up to be more rated G to PG. This is making me simplify everything which forces me to commit the essentials to memory...

D&D 5E Enhancing "Princes of the Apocalypse" (Practical stuff to try at your table!)

This is excellent! I'm using these ideas, too. Making the surface cults actually not necessarily bad adds a lot of depth. I may even let the players try to turn or even take over the surface organizations.
