I think I disagree. We're not just talking about symbols of other gods, we're talking about powerful magical items that the cleric can use to actually further his/her god's agenda. Refusing to actually accomplish something because you'd have to use an item with another ideology's mark on it...

Versatile weapons get that bonus so that there's a damage difference between wieding them one-handed and two-handed. Two-handed weapons are always wielded two-handed, so they just have higher base damage. This is better in some cases. Powers that deal multiple times weapon damage are better...

Isn't that one of the reasons you might use an at-will power? They often have different damage bonuses. If they were the same as basic attacks, there wouldn't be any reason for them.

The difference is that the fighter/wizard could still use the sword/wand, they just wouldn't get the extras from their specialization. If the sword/wand is good enough compared to the fighter/wizard's currect warhammer/orb, she/he might even carry both. A bit less likely for the fighter who...

They're helpful if you have a warlord that grants basic attacks to allies. The ranged ones are better since warlocks and wizards can both use them with at-wills, as eldritch blast and magic missile count as ranged basic attacks, although warlords can't grant those with an at-will.
