RPG Writer Zak S Accused Of Abusive Behaviour

Y'all just going around in circles with the same few people, using increasingly outlandish analogies. I think it's a waste of time. Don't put the pressure on the few customers who proudly proclaim that one's "personal life" (eg, serial harassment, sexual assault and partner abuse) should be kept...

RPG Writer Zak S Accused Of Abusive Behaviour

Abuse is not political. In fact, if we've seen anything over the lifetime of the #MeToo movement, it's that abuse cuts across all political boundaries and that every community can house predators. --EDIT-- For some reason, some other things got quoted in that were unintentional.

RPG Writer Zak S Accused Of Abusive Behaviour

There are lots of meaningful and needed conversations happening on indie RPG Twitter. People who had already been hurt by and come forward about Zak, people who saw the way the industry protected him, and, in many cases, pushed them to the side. I recommend giving it a read. This is painful...

RPG Writer Zak S Accused Of Abusive Behaviour

Hi Jeff, I'm really not judging your character. I don't know you and I have only one instance of your speech to go on. Well, now 3. I'm not trying to be self-righteous; I'm looking to temper the desire to be righteous in these situations instead of being compassionate. I'm speaking only to that...

RPG Writer Zak S Accused Of Abusive Behaviour

This is victim blaming. The problem here wasn't that the women who came forward were polyamorous or sexually liberal. The problem was an abusive person who took advantage of them and a society that protected him. This same sort of abuse happens within the most traditional of marriages.

RPG Writer Zak S Accused Of Abusive Behaviour

I believe Mandy. I believe Jennifer. I believe Hannah. I believe the many, many others who have come forward before this to tell us about Zak S's patterns of severely abusive behaviors.

Comfort withcross gender characters based on your gender

I won't speak for anyone else, but what I'm saying is that you might have a hard time inferring the gender from a tableful of well role played characters if you weren't particular attententive to pronouns. Do you hold male characters to the same "demonstrate your gender" standards as the female...

Comfort withcross gender characters based on your gender

I understand why a player would make this assumption, but it's not supported by the game rules, and one of my goals with groups I play with is to get away from these normative assumptions. RPGs often have "default" assumptions, but I've never for character appearance and gender, and, as far as...

Comfort withcross gender characters based on your gender

If I were to record a few sessions worth of play, there's a good chance that nobody at the table would do anything to overtly indicate the gender of their character. They might use a pronoun every once in a while, but lots of people generally refer to their characters in the first person...

Comfort withcross gender characters based on your gender

My experience is that millennials feel very comfortable role playing characters whose gender does not match their own, and seem to navigate the "challenge" or lack thereof quite well.

Comfort withcross gender characters based on your gender

I'm male. Thinking back to characters played over the last six months, 3 were female, one was nonbinary and one was male. One of my favorite characters, who I only got to play once, was Esme, a retired cat burglar, who loved most in the world fabulous flowing skirts and stealing things for her...

I'm co-hosting a public game of Monsterhearts 2 at Anyone Comics in Brooklyn, NY on Sunday, June 3rd. It's an amazing Powered by the Apocalypse RPG by Avery Alder. I'd love it if some EN-Worlders would be interested in coming out! From the event website...

Playing D&D: Homebrew or Published Setting? Why?

Settings books are some of the deadliest to read for me, so my attempts to use published settings generally run aground when I get bored of learning about the published setting. Easier to start with a concept for a homebrew and fill in the details on places as I need them. When my current player...

"I'm no good at that" and Inspiration

Savage Worlds has a mechanic where a character can take a certain number of flaws in exchange for more points during character creation. (Used to improve skills, abilities or take another Edge.) This is cool. In my experience, everybody takes as many flaws as possible, of course. On the other...

D&D 5E Dm misadventures. Tales of woe. How long did your worse table arguement last?

As somebody who DMs more than I play, I know that going off the rails is just the cost of doing business. If the players are engaging with what their characters would do in a given situation, and that takes them in a different direction than I had planned, so be it. As a player, I used to try...
