Conflex: an alternative skill challenge system [v0.2]

The problem I often see with skill challenges is when you resolve one objective... then what. I mean, if the players work toward finding the way, once they succeed at the nature check, well... they did find the best way. But you still have to wait until the challenge is completed to tell them...

Conflex: an alternative skill challenge system [v0.2]

This system made me though about an alternative. I'm not huge fan of using spread sheet to manage my skill challenge, so here a "light" version of this system. This system is based on 5 characters group. - For the skill challenge, the DM choose 3 objectives. For example, in the labyrinth skill...

    Designing encounter map

The map design of a combat encounter is really important in 4e combats. It really changes everything. I've run easy encounters (low xp budget) that turned really though because of the map design (tight rooms with monsters having damaging auras for example) or hard encounter that turned really...

3/4 hps, +1/2 level damage working nicely!

Looks like a good idea, but the problem here is when the group is facing higher lvl monsters. They now become way much powerfull since they will still have plenty of HPs, and already do more damage (and will do 1/2 lvl more). I would be interested to see how it turns out.

    Adventure starter: Amnesia

You do realize the amnesia thing is an awfull cliché? It's nowhere near original. Now, nowadays "original" is a lost word since everything have already been made, there's a way to take a cliché and turn it into something interesting. You should ask yourself : how can I suprise my players with...

    Two Team Adventure Recommendations?

I've did this before too and it was honestly one of my best RPG experience ever. I did this with my homemade RPG system in a futuristic setting. There was 2 GMs, and 2 groups made of 3 players. The first group were the "bad guys" working for some influent criminal group called RedDemon. They...

Math behind PC defenses and to hit VS monsters ?

The problem with character optimization is... well it's kinda munchkinism but under disguise of another word. That lead the players who focus on RP or skills or other things than ONLY combat to be WELL under the curve and mostly unable to keep up in battles.

Math behind PC defenses and to hit VS monsters ?

Not if his even number is 18 :P But yes, I've made the math from optimized characters... because, yes, sadly, 4e requires to optimise your character to keep in the curve. And there goes out the windows RP or skill oriented characters. :-S

Math behind PC defenses and to hit VS monsters ?

You're mentioning exceptions. You can spend only 1 AP per encounter, and the bonus apply only for 1 attack. CA, at-will that gives a monster -2 to hit, powers that gives +2 to attack, etc is more the kind of "synergy" bonus I was talking about. Overall, you cannot expect having more than +2 per...

Math behind PC defenses and to hit VS monsters ?

I agree. Even 50% chance to hit is too low in my opinion. Who think missing an attack feels fun for the player? Missing should be rare! 80% hit chance is more like it.

Math behind PC defenses and to hit VS monsters ?

    I've been doing some math. Here's the score needed to hit a monster of the same lvl PC SCORE TO HIT (same lvl) 1: 9 2: 9 3: 9 4: 8 5: 9 6: 9 7: 10 8: 9 9: 10 10: 10 11: 10 12: 10 13: 10 14: 10 15: 11 16: 10 17: 11 18: 10 19: 11 20: 11 21: 12 22: 11 23: 11 The maths seem not bad if you...

Dwarves make as good/better primal characters than elves.

Elf druid IS good. Who said druid needs Wis, Dex AND Con ? Usually, you only need the first stat, and one of the two. I made an elven druid based on Wis and Dex with primal predator, and the character is totally on the curve.

Math behind PC defenses and to hit VS monsters ?

Thx KarinsDad Well, I was also looking for attack bonus and defense bonus, something like (it's just an example) PC bonus to attack 1: +6 (+3 stat, +3 profiency) 2: +7 (+3 stat, +3 profiency, +1 ½lvl) 3: etc ... 30: etc PC bonus to defenses (strong/average/poor) 1: 15 (+3 stat, +2 class) / 12...

Math behind PC defenses and to hit VS monsters ?

I'm looking for a post where someone made the math behind the pc and monster to hit and defense curve that make a lot of people thinking the system needs a fix (that Expertise and Epic reflexes/fort/will don't patch up well, wich I agree). I do understand that monsters gains +1 to hit and...
