I barely missed the kickstarter so I decided to pre-order just a few days ago (to get in on the pdf deal).
pre-ordered the book at my local shop got a receipt and e-mailed it to preorders@numenera.com
haven't heard anything back yet. i'm assuming they are swamped but wondering if i should...
Yes it is. I like random because it takes power away from me as a DM and puts power in 'the world'.
In character generation I always prefer random stats within limits. The characters tend to be more interesting and less slightly less typical than with a point buy system. Someone might choose...
I get what you're saying. I should have been more specific but I didn't really feel the need. I tend to assume people won't bother picking things apart where there's really nothing to pick apart.
I agree with you but RPGs are different than reality. I was talking about how things go in an RPG...
That'd be because the concept of heroism is succeeding where you're not expected to succeed.
Everyone wants to be heroic. The difference I think is whether the heroic moments occur naturally, simply because stuff doesn't go down as intended. Or because they've been framed and designed to be...
I like limitations. My group tends to also. Limitations on the world just helps define each campaign more for us. Because generally speaking it's pretty sandbox. So those big sweeping restrictions are one of the most fundamental differences between campaigns for us.
Also I don't see planescape...
Personally I think the preference for different styles and different systems is also related to the overall form the game takes.
What I mean by form is more sandbox and location based or more story and time based. I think most people try to find a balance here but I feel the different systems...
I'm firmly combat as war with some combat as sport. As are all my players.
This notion that combat as war means the DMing "letting" the players win is ridiculous. I don't let my players win. The defeat or fail at encounters I've set up to challenge them. If they win it's because they defeated...
D&D isn't just used to refer to that specific game. It's often used to refer to fantasy roleplaying games in general.
PFRPG clearly targeted people coming from 3.5. They even state it and it's all OGL material. I don't think it tries to appear as D&D the brand so much as it appears as a fantasy...
I realize that. That's more an issue of how long it was in the oven and how much they did to get fan reactions. Which I don't think they did enough of. They just went with the gut motivation to fix the complications brought by 3E and codify the game to facilitate easy and organized play...
I do not understand why people think everyone who plays Pathfinder is some sycophant. I don't understand what player demand is maybe.
We like the way paizo handles things. We like the communication. We like the people involved. The production values, the (usual) attention to detail, and the...
If they had started with essentials I might be playing 4E now instead of PF.
Then when they released the 'Advanced'PHB they would already have all that experience and feedback designing classes and powers that aren't so bland and uninteresting to me.
It's a shame. Essentials made me excited...
