A Review of Swords of the Serpentine

Yes I see how it could be worth it in these circumstances. Conversely, I suppose if I wanted to gain a final victory against the main enemy say by intimidating her to surrender or charming her to become an ally, would you allow this to succeed automatically by the mere spending of investigative...

A Review of Swords of the Serpentine

Thanks! I think I get it, but a few examples would certainly be useful. If that is the case, than I suppose it’s not worth spending an investigate point to get a +3 on the sway maneuver roll, as you would likely have gotten the same result just spending the investigate point in the first place...

A Review of Swords of the Serpentine

That is what I thought at first, but sway attacks also come with maneuvers where the NPC gets to choose whether to do what you want OR take morale damage. And exemple is given for having nooks leave you alone for a fight with their boss for example. So it seems a sway Roll can certainly be used...

A Review of Swords of the Serpentine

I just finished a first reading of the book and am confused about when to use one of the social investigate skills to convince an NPC to collaborate, help etc, or when to use a sway maneuver to achieve the same result. It seems both could work but when are we supposed to use each system ?

    WOIN New WOIN errata?

The 1:1 dice exchange errata seems like the more fundamental change. I am curious to see what warranted this change now ? Combat took too long maybe and this is a good way for higher grade character to deal quickly with lower level threats ?

WOIN Extras or Minions for WOIN

Just what I was looking for. The timing is quite uncanny :) Does the Mob exploit doing an automatic 1 damage replace the Mook attack or is that in addition to the attacks ?

WOIN Extras or Minions for WOIN

It's an interesting idea to use fighters as a proxy for Minions but how would it work exactly ? If you had 5 minions they would have 5 health, and automatically do 5 damage no matter the defense of the PC ? And what about soaks ? Contrary to ships PCs don't usually have shields so 4 or 5...

WOIN Extras or Minions for WOIN

Thanks Morrus. When you say one hit kills a minion do you mean any hits or a hit that does damages above Soak ? I assume its the latter to give effect to the NPC's armor. I think this could work but I was thinking alternatively to use the lowest possible health points per die (1) instead of...

WOIN Extras or Minions for WOIN

As the title mentions, are there any rules for minion types NPCs in WOIN or perhaps mobs ? I like the system, but combats can be long, especially with a multitude of lower grade opponents. Even if they are weaker, they still have a significant amount of health, especially if they have armor...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

I agree with earlier comments that the Guide is very barebones in regards to the description of the world, so much so that I think it would be difficult to set an entire campaign in Ravnica unless the DM is prepared to homebrew 90% of the setting. However, I think it would work better if...

D&D 5E Slow Natural Healing in actual play

I agree that all of these elements can contribute to the issue . However I happen to be DMing the same group of players for 35 years so can somewhat “control” for some of these variables and in that case confirm that system does matter. The same players faced with easier healing will tend to be...

D&D 5E Slow Natural Healing in actual play

I agree that is a good way to emphasis the importance of Hit dice. The game itself however does not really tie anything to them, including long term injuries which are tied to hp still. I do not think it’s that simple. I will give you an example. We are currently playing Tomb of Annihilation...

D&D 5E Slow Natural Healing in actual play

It’s funny to see that a lot of people now consider it crippling for a pc to start a fight with anything less than full hit points. It really shows how the game went from having hp be a ressource that was managed during the entire adventure to a ressource that is now expected to be managed in...

Updated errata & rules FAQs, including new starship combat FAQ

I just saw the errata on "additive" help I.e. Adding strength score of multiple participant and seeing how many dice that correspond too and would like to think this was inspired by our conversation in the "http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?527313-A-few-rules-questions-on-O-L-D" thread...

A few rules questions on O.L.D.

I have reviewed the modified journey rules and I have a few questions. I understand that the health cap based on negative fortune has been removed and replaced with a possible exhaustion result. However, it's unclear to me how this work compared to the quick journey rules. It seems that all...
