[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

    1) Thanks for taking the high ground in the flamewar with Petrosian. It's a tough thing to do... 2) Are you a Hero Legioneer? If not, you should be. 3) I'd like to have the text for the card you use for my demos. Can you send them to me, or post them on the Legion of Heroes thread on the hero...

[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

If you like it, I recommend buying FReD. You will like it more. This is a great time to start with HERO. The website (see above) has excellent support for new players, although your best bet is still sitting in a game or three. Good luck.

[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

Amen, brother. While FReD will scare the dice out of system-phobes due to its size, these are excellent points. Most of the complaints come down to the bane of many good RPGs - bad calls by GMs and bad behavior by players. These HERO fanatics are often over zealous, such as attempting to figure...

[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

I agree with all the above. To illustrate how flexible the system is, thought I'd list all the campaigns I've run using Hero: 4-color superhero "Dark" superhero "Psi" game Wild West game set in Abilene A manga-style game - near-future - sf/horror A superhero Civil War game Alien invasion game...

[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

5th ed. costs $40.00. It is _rougly_ equivalent of the scope of rules found DMG and PHB although that is a loose comparison. A Beastiary is due out soon. The Champions Genre book is slated for Gen Con, I believe, followed by Star Hero, Ninja Hero. Again, get on the discussion boards or ask...

[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

First, the current version of Fantasy Hero was written for 4th ed. While it would be very helpful, a new version is not planned until 2003, I think. The big difference is that Hero is classless and settingless. The GM will have to do some work to come up with guidelines (5th ed. give some idea...

[OT] Hero System Fifth Ed Review

Champions Math, and Tangents For folks reading this thread who are more familiar with D&D, I have a comment on HERO SYSTEM, particularly Champions. I'm headed off on a tanget here, as you can see... Hero has a "bad" rep in many people's minds as an overly complex system. While the system can...

Thanks for the info Hal. If anyone has his email, please send it to me (privately). I've been all over the wizards site and cannot find it. (Their search engine leaves a lot to be desired...) THANK YOU!

    d20 Modern

Anthony Valterra mentioned that some publishers may be contacted with versions of the d20 Modern rules so that they could work on games. Does anyone have any more info on this, or contact info for Mr. Valterra? My partner and I are both published designers and are looking to get a product...

    Reincarnation -- XP and ECLs

What did WotC say about XP totals? Where did you see this? --- Thanks.

    Reincarnation -- XP and ECLs

Yeah, that's for sure. The ECL for a Raven is listed at 2 and has a -8 STR mod. Flying is a fantasic ability, but I don't think it is worth _that_ much! Anyway I think they erred on the side of higher ECLS than lower ones. Has anyone seen the reincarnation "problem" addressed by WOTC? Seems...

    Reincarnation -- XP and ECLs

From reincarnation in SRD: ...A character reincarnated recalls the majority of his former life and form. He retains his Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores, as well as any class abilities or skills he formerly possessed. His class, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and hit points are...
