Aside from the obvious, such as Undead, are there any subtypes (read:Species) that would be immune to life level drain? Would a plant suffer such? Outsiders? Both Evil and Good? Does it make a difference what the source of the drain comes from, via spell or undead touch?

I can see from the text what you are saying about regeneration not being like natural healing or fast healing, but what else could it be? You're wounded, you heal. Even the spell Regeneration is a conjuration just like regular Cure spells. I think, rather than looking at it from a "Healing"...
