best computer mapping software

As an example, I made this as a humane long-term mage prison for a campaign I play in. Its dimensions conform to the Sigil of AntiMagic in the SBG. As you can see, Dundjinni can work in either square grids or hexes. The resolution is actually much better than this, but I had to lower it to upload the file here.

Xath,

Nice work. So here's a twist...

I've recently got into trying out that virtual tabletop emulator software from Fantasy Grounds. And as part of that whole creative process I'm interested in mapping software that's fairly compatible. I've read many great things about Dunjinni and think that I'll plunk down the dough and give it a go.

And also.. for anyone interested in making really nice maps by hand in Image Editing software go and visit that link that Pogre had posted up above.... It's really a fantastic process and the results absolutely kick butt. I made a Hommlet and Environs... I'll see if I can't post it sometime soon here.

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback.

I'm going to get back into creating maps and I'm considering using Campaign Cartographer 2 Pro for design & drawing and Paint Shop Pro for finishing. I've got the demos.

Would I be giving up anything by using this combo? What do Photoshop, Fractal Mapper, and other software offer that I'll be missing? The last time I looked, the open source options weren't ready yet. I've heard that strides been made in this area, but are they ready?

I've seen that CC2 is a CAD program using the action/object paradigm. Would getting a vector based drawing program using the opposite object/action paradigm add enough capability or simplify things enough to justify the extra expense?

Thanks for any help, answers or opinions sent my way.

Sam

Arggh! Corel bought out Paint Shop Pro. TANJ!!!
