Minis: Snakemen and Cult Leader

Gizzard

First Post
Here's a set of minis I've done for a one of the classic 3E modules. The Snakemen are Reaper with light conversions, the Cult Leader is GW Mordheim.

Actually, its just blended acrylics. I dont use too much ink. I am pretty happy with the way the blending came out on the little cult guy; though I wish now that I had chosen an "evil-er" color. I'm doing the assistant cultists in a sicky yellow-green, which is working out nicely.

Here are the Assistant Cultists, I went for a more lizardy green this time and I think it came out "evil-er". The classic red-black scheme on the box is nice (nice and evil!); after doing this I wonder how many good (evil?) color schemes really work for cultists.

What are you gonna use them for?

Well, I dont know how to say this without giving a spoiler. So if anyone is thinking of playing any low level module and doesnt want to risk --SPOILERS-- they should stop now.

--SPOILERS--
--SPOILERS--

I'll also bury it in the middle of this sentence; the module is the first of the Freeport series. My players are about halfway through, I started painting at the end of the module and worked my way forward.

Excellent paint jobs. Any way to take a picture of one the backs of the snakemen, I would be interested to see how you did their scales.

How long does it take to paint a fig?

Here's a pic of their backs; its overcast outside right now so its again a bit of a dark pic. Basically, they have these big, chunky scales on their backs, so I found an old reference photo of a pair of crocodiles (eating whole chickens!) from National Geographic. Their backs are an olive green with black markings; the coloring fades around through orange and yellow-green onto their bone-white bellies. There are lots of colors splashed around on individual scales; I mostly represented them with dots of a couple different dark colors.

I dunno how long it took me to do them; I spend a lot of time figuring out how to do the first one and then paint the rest relatively quickly.

Hi Gizzard - just wanted to let you know that those are some of the best painted miniatures I have seen (and this from a guy who has about 80 issues worth of White Dwarf 'eavy Metal articles :D)

Excellent work! I can't even give you any advice for improvement! I just keep having to use exclamation points!!!!!!!!

thanks for the pictures of the snakemans' backs. I love how you did the light with spots on the sides and darkend toward the center. It gives them a very natural reptilian feel. I hope they put some hurt on your players.
