One thing though. You should give the character a shadow. It'll ground him in the picture instead of making it look like he's just floating there.

Do try to keep your light sources consistent though! The mountains and trees in the background indicate the sun is somewhere to the right. The shadow you drew indicates a light source from behind the left shoulder of the viewer.

Any shadow is better than no shadow, but it'll look even better if it's consistent with the rest of the picture.

You could also try shading the figure itself. Add some highlights on the right side of his face (your right, not his right), darken the left side of his hair, torso and sleeves.

Overall, nice work though!

If you looked at the picture a little better, then you'd noticed that the light comes from the left, heading towards the far right. Otherwise his shadow wouldn't be behind him.

The face of the figure has highlights and shadows, but are hard to see due to the resizing, since I didn't want to upload a pic of over 4 megs.

In that case, try flipping the background around. The shadows on the mountains and trees are a lot more pronounced that the shadows on the figure!

How about something like this... it's a bit of a hackjob, but at least the shadows all agree.

I do like your composition (facing towards the center) better though...

He looks like a giant, the shadow is out of proportions I think?

Yeah, I know. It's partly the perspective. When you're standing eye-to-eye with someone, their eyes should be at the same level as the horizon. The figure is drawn as if the observer is about at the level of his waist or lower. He could be standing on a slight rise for example

In Lord Caelin's revised picture, the shadow reaches all the way to the rocks in the distance, reinforcing the "giant" impression. For a normal-sized figure, this could happen near sunrise or sunset, but the lighting seems closer to early afternoon or so.

Still a *great* picture, though! :D Wish I could draw half as well...
