Owning multiple copies of RPG books

I also have 7 copies of the 2nd players hb. It helps because it's the only rpg I'll DM.

I don't own multiple copies of anything. I wouldn't mind multiple copies of PHBs or even the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, just so I could have a loaner copy for people at the table. But I rarely justify spending the money on it when the opportunity presents itself.

Yep. I own two copies of the 1e Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide, five copies of the 2E Player's Handbook, two copies of the 2E Dungeon Master's Guide, two copies of each of the 3E and 3.5 Player's Handbook, and several duplicates of published adventures (I6 Ravenloft, Tomb of Horrors, et cetera).

I've never went out of my way to get duplicates or even paid for them--people have given them to me when they quit the hobby or found them in storage. I'm not adverse to purchasing duplicates, however... If the price is reasonable (say, around $10) and the book in question is in better shape than my current copy. I'd love a new copy of 1E's Unearthed Arcana, for example.

2 Holmes basic boxes
4 Moldvay basic boxes
3 Cook/Marsh expert boxes (1 battle damaged badly 2 in NM)

4 1E Players Handbooks
2 1E Dungeon Masters Guides
3 1E Monster manuals

I have tons of duplicates and worse in some cases. While my collection was fairly complete just on my own purchases, over the last few years have managed to stumble upon some healthy collections being sold very cheap at auctions and yard sales.

The only time I would buy a duplicate is if the book I had was getting worn out (as is happening with my Pathfinder rulebook at the moment). I don't see the point in buying multiples otherwise.

I own two copies of the 2nd Edition Player's Handbook (one each of the original and the "black cover" version). I also own both the 2nd Edition Monstrous Manual and also the original Monstrous Compendia folders from which it draws its content.

I owned three copies of the 3.0e PHB, although I think I've since given two of these away. I only own one 3.5e PHB, but I kinda wish I'd picked up half a dozen copies back when they were cheap!

Otherwise, I don't own any duplicates.

I did find that having at least two copies of the PHB at the table made a big improvement in the quality of the game, and I daresay that would apply also to other heavily-used books (in 3e, the Spell Compendium was a likely candidate). However, the people I play with now tend to have their own rulebooks, so my owning multiple copies would be redundant.
